|
|
so last night i had an improptu viewing of Dark Knight. the bro in law bought it for christmas (for me...nice guy!) and wanted to watch it. unfortunately i had not bought a blu ray...but christmas was coming. so i picked up a sony s350 and hooked it up through my denon 2809 to a powered hdmi splitter. one output goes to a hitachi 1080i crt tv, the other to the lumagen and out to a moome hdmi card on a 9500lc.
so when i plugged the blu ray player in, the menu came up and immediately asked if i wanted auto, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.
i thought auto would be best...but when i selected it, i just got fuzz on the screen. i changed it to 1080i and same thing...fuzz. i turned on the hitachi, and it was displaying fine. audio was coming through fine through the hdmi.
i ended up hooking up component cable and sending 1080i through them, and that worked fine and looked good, but i want to figure what i may have to adjust either on the player or the lumagen to get it to work.
thanks for your help.

First, I'd put it in "AUTO" and use the EDID in the Lumgen to tell it that it wants 1080p/24--but I think some sony products need an additional config to push 1080p/24.
Second, you need to do some simple debugging to see what the problem device is.
First, try BD player 1080p direct to the moome. If it works, add the Lumagen into the chain. If it works add the splitter in the chain. etc. when you find the device that is the problem, try BD player to that to the PJ and see if the problem persists or if it is the combination of devices.
Lastly, in set ups like yours, I typically put the splitter after the Lumagen. Put the Lumagen in "Independant output" mode and set up at least two memory blocks for each input--one mapped to the output config set up for the CRT and one the output config set up for the other display.
Now, HDMI audio is the "weakness" of the Lumagen. If you go through your receiver, then all sources must share one Lumagen input--so only 4 memory blocks for all the sources. But, since your BD player is probably the only one that has HDMI audio, another trick I like is to get a simple 1x2 splitter, put that on the output from the BD player and send one output to the AVR and one the the Lumagen--thus your AVR is not doing video switching. Your other (and most people only have one other) HDMI device can go to the other Lumagen digital input and you use its S/PDIF output to your AVR. For two displays, another splitter after the Lumagen and configure the Lumagen as I already mentioned.
