The wife has given an ultimatum.

The 36XBR450 takes up too much space and will not go to the new living room.

Therefore a 42 plasma (prob a panasonic) or the 50 sxrd is in the works.

I like em both but as a dyed in the wool Sony man, and stock holder, what is going to give a better picture? I'm leaning sony but i may be predjudiced.

Sources w/ be Dishnet HD, DVD(or B/R) and sat channels.

Whats your opinion?

42" plasma is $1500. 50" SXRD is going to be more. BTW, isn't the SXRD also rear-projection? How about converting the room on the opposite side of the shared wall and rear-setup a CRT projector? Very Happy

This is a setup for the wife and her friends for watching movies. The CRT PJ is going into the basement.

I wish sony would release a 42 sxrd , but no sign of that.

I've never seen a rear projection unit as small as 42". I think the smallest I've seen is 46".

I think you should do more research as there are issues with both technologies. You might want to wait a while.

XBR2's and the new more affordable 97 Series JVC models will hit the street soon. Both improved LCOS units.
