These come out Dec 2nd if I remember. I don't go to the theaters anymore, so I haven't seen them.
How are these movies and are they worth the extra cost of Blu-ray?
I know Wanted is all action and no story, but if the action and effects are enough to entertain through the whole thing, it's worthwhile.
I've heard nothing about Hancock and nobody I know saw it. Is it as good as like an xmen movie or was all the good stuff used in the trailer?
Thanks for your input.

I have 2 different 1080p trailers for Hancock on my PS3 and based on those it looks like it'd be really good. The problem is I haven't heard much about it.
Wanted is supposed to be a great visual ride, but I haven't heard if there's enough great visual effects to make it worthwhile on BD.

I bought Hancock on Blu on Nov 9th or something. Best Buy had a day when you could go buy it early. It was supposed to be by invitation but they didn't ask anyone for invitations.
I saw Hancock in the theater for free due to movie cash that come with my MIB Blu Ray. The movie is OK. Not great but can be fun.
Haven't seen wanted.

Hancock was disappointing. I like Smith so it was tolerable. Quality of the transfer is mostly very good. Movie takes a horrible plot turn about half way through and descends into total crap.

I thought Hancock sucked honestly. I'm sure it's a great looking BD transfer but not enough for me to want to buy it. I never saw "Wanted" in the theater but I know I will want the BD simply because I love Angelina Jolie. Though she doesn't hold the same appeal for me that she once did...I still find her very hot.

Kal,
You might like Hancock... give it a chance.
I didn't like or dis-like it much when I saw in at my local theater but it's fun in the home theater.

I don't deem very many BDs worth owning (especially at current ridiculous prices). If I can't guarantee I'll watch it 3 times, I rent it. Since I had "heard about" Hancock, it was definately a rent!
I would very much suggest just renting this if you even bother watching it.

"Wanted" is another reference quality disc:
Wanted (Universal) Video: 4.5/5 Audio: 5/5
| Quote: | The Video: Sizing Up the Picture
’Wanted’ features an arresting 1080p/AVC-encoded transfer that renders every bead of sweat, strand of hair, and spatter of blood that litters the screen with clarity and precision. From the opening gunfight to Wesley’s suicidal third-act assault, the high definition image boasts impressive fine detailing, realistic textures, and sharp edges (achieved without a hint of intrusive edge enhancement). The film’s vibrant colors are spectacular as well -- reds are warm and bold, skintones are natural, and blues, in particular, are a sight to behold. More importantly, contrast is comfortable, delineation is revealing, and black levels are deep and inky. Despite a thin veil of steady grain, I didn’t detect any significant source noise, artifacting, or DNR to speak of. In fact, the transfer’s attributes come together to create a clean, three-dimensional image that produces the coveted picture-window effect on more than one occasion.
The only scenes that tax the transfer a bit are those set in the Fraternity’s textile mill -- the fine threads running from floor to ceiling look hazy at times and shimmer at others. Considering a few errant shots are soft and a pair of night scenes aren’t as well resolved as the rest, ‘Wanted’ isn’t quite the flawless demo material I had hoped for. Nevertheless, it still offers a stunning presentation that, aside from a handful of minor distractions, stands up to the best transfers on the market.
The Audio: Rating the Sound
It’s a rare treat when I’m forced to find time in the middle of the day to review a film simply because its audio presentation would otherwise wake up everyone in my house. ‘Wanted’ arrives on Blu-ray with a reference-level DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track that had a tussle with my sound system and won. Dialogue is crystal clear, perfectly prioritized, and deftly spread across the front speakers. LFE support is outstanding, injecting hearty thooms and bottomless rumbles into an already hyperactive soundscape. Gunshots, explosions, and careening metal hit with palpable force, while subtle environmental ambience, immersive interior acoustics, and transparent pans make the sonics startlingly believable. When time slows, an implosion of sound convincingly drowns out Wesley’s surroundings. When it speeds up, the chaos erupts into every channel with oh-so-accurate directionality and pitch-perfect fidelity. And dynamics… ah, I could go on and on and still fail to explain how engrossing and enthralling the audible experience actually is.
Suffice to say, ‘Wanted’ is one of the best sounding discs on the market and a front-runner for best high-def audio track of the year. It not only enhances every scene of a bombastic actioner, it does so with refinement, precision, and aggression. Even those who hate the film itself will be suitably bowled over by this DTS HD MA track. Kudos Universal. |

Grrr,... Have Wanted sitting here and I have to wait about a week for the board to repair my projector.
It's tempted to watch the craptastic "digital copy" for itunes that comes with it but ... I'll just have to wait.

You will have rented it by then ... no?
Maybe I should have rented it but I had to go to Best Buy anyway to get a copy of Top Gun on Blu Ray that I reserved for $11.99 and while I was there I had them price match Sears advertized price of $19.99 for Wanted.
I haven't seen Top Gun yet... I hope it's fun to watch.
I'm sure Wanted isn't the best movie ever but I figure it's got plenty of Eye candy and that's fun in the HT. I'm not always up for a great movies... sometimes I am just in the mood for a fun action pic.

Just finished "wanted"... WOW, that's a 1 way ticket to a panic attack. I was all relaxed and that movie really got me going. Great concept, great effects and I thought there was quite a bit more story than they were given credit for. I thought a lot of the gore was REALLY unnecessary, but over all it was pretty good. It definitely could have had a happier ending, although it tied up all the loose ends. I wasn't left sitting there like "what about ___?" It was a finished story too, which is a bit rare. A lot of movies leave you wondering "what happened to __?" because they were deemed a side plot and unimportant.
Having said all that, I'm glad I borrowed it. I won't likely watch it again.

I agree with most of your review, but I'd definitely demo it again and again. The audio was especially amazing!

Well, I broke down and bought "Hancock" today in the cheap bin at blockbuster. I'll check the DVD out and if it's really amazing I'll get the used BR for $20 at blockbuster. Good deals there today in the "previously enjoyed" section. Buy 2 get one free. Basically 3 for $20.
Got House Bunny (love Anna Farris), Hancock, Tropic Thunder, Journey to the Center of the Earth (the new Brendon Fraser one), Smart People, Shrek the halls all on DVD. I also got Mommy - Tomb of the Dragon Emporer and Twilight (pre-order for the Mrs) on Blu-ray.
All 8 movies for $87.94
I'll let you know when I get around to watching Hancock. Haven't seen any of the above except Shrek the halls.

Just watched Wanted. Holy sh*t - talk about action. Wow. I could have done with one notch less of crazy/impossible/suspension-of-disbelief-blowing impossible stunts, but it was still really fun. The DTS-MA soundtrack was AWESOME! I agree w/Gino - definitely demo material.

We watched Eagle Eye tonight. Same amount of action as Wanted without all the unnecessary gore. Way better movie, even if it was as far fetched as wanted.
