I have a new tube coming to replace my spot burnt one.

I got the spot burn when I power down when the green went bright.

The question is ... if this happens again what do I do.

1. wait till the protection kicks in and powers itself down --- What if this doesnt happen?
2. pull the neck board - I have a ceiling mount. If I unscrew the heat sink the 2 boards will fall out ... I dont even want to think what will happen then.

I really dont want to keep spot burning tubes.... what can I do?

You could always leave the front cover open, and pull the HVPS straight out of the set. Mind you, I haven't done this, but if you pull it STRAIGHT out, I can't see there being any problem with the HV supply, and without HV, the tubes don't light and you get no HV.

I'll try it on my test Marquee this weekend or Monday, I'll letcha know if something blows up.

simply slide the top cover off and pull the P14 connector to disconnect from motherboard (behind blue tube). There's actually enough room to get my fat paws in there and the connector slips off very easilly. You can also use a short piece of wood, like a wooden dowel.
Not sure about yanking the HVPS, sounds a little scary and it would take longer to remove.

I do it as Dragnm says, but i have a string tied to it and then have it routed in a way that i can pull it when i want to power down incase i get something wrong going on. works very nicely .
