Am I missing something here? I used to be of the HTPC camp (many moons ago) but with something like the Panny BD-30K and the HDFury2 for a approx combined $500, why would or should I go the HTPC route when the price of even a basic HTPC would be the same if not more?

It seems that the 30K can do some Gamma correction (does it negate the need for the GammaX module?) and the Fury2 will convert the HDMI into the RGBHV that I need for my DTV-1100. I certainly like the simplicity.

Yep, I'm one of the di-hard HTPC users. Must are happy with Fury2 or Moome and standalone players, your DTV-1100 should look great at 1080i with a standalone player. The gamma correction may not be enough in the Panny, so the GammaX might still be required.
