There is little information from page 25 of the manual for a 12V trigger hook-up, so not much help there. I'm wondering if anyone uses this feature.

I'm looking to set this up so that when my receiver is switched to Satellite or PS3, the 12 volt trigger capability of the receiver turns the projector on. All I get is an error message from the receiver's screen that the 12V trigger failed.

My wife is looking for simplicity and wants to press one (ok, maybe two but not three Smile ) button to watch DVDs or HDTV

The things we do...

Any suggestions?

I honestly don't know about this much, but I will tell you that I have been in customer's HT rooms and they have had Sony's set up like this. Thus it can be done!

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a universal remote?

PS. Craig, damn man that is a huge signature!

It might be easier, I don't know but one thing I do know is that I'm not spending any more $.

It should work like this: receiver button on, select PS3 or Satellite and on goes projector. What could be simpler?

Anyhow, if anyone know how this should work, please chime in.

Thanks!

I was of the opinion that the 12v trigger worked the other way round to the way you describe. eg, Turn projector on, which then triggers other devices to turn on.

That is also the way I understood it. "Turn on the projector and the electric screen drops down" Confused

You guys are correct. The trigger function on the G70 IS the trigger for other devices, not the other way around.

Gary, here's the easiest way to accomplish what you're talking about. Buy a triggered AC outlet like a Niles AC3 or something from Tripp-Lite or Furman. They're all going to run in the $125-150+ ballpark.

http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=874

You can also build something for less than a third of that if you're inclined to save some money, but burn some time.

Anyway, connect that box to the wall (ceiling?) outlet at the projector and the 12v trigger from the AVR or processor. Then, plug the G70 into the power strip instead of the outlet and set the G70's "Direct Power On" mode to ON. What that menu setting does is configure the G70 to turn on when the 110/220v mains go hot. That way, when the triggered power strip goes hot, the G70 will fire up.

Service Setting -> Direct Power On -> On

You can try it by configuring that setting up and powering off the G70. Then, unplug it or switch off the breaker. When you plug it back in, or turn the breaker back on, the G70 should automatically fire up.

Bada bing.

I'm doing exactly what you're talking about, but I'm powering up my Crown amplifiers which have no remote. I configured the trigger setup in the prepro to power the amps up regardless of the source.

Oh, one other thing. The only thing bad about this method is that obviously, power is removed from the G70's LVPS whenever it's turned off. It would be interesting to hear from one of the experts if there are any implications for the battery on the Dallas chip or anything else with power being removed and applied regularly. For instance, does it make any difference to anything in the projector whether the LVPS is supplied with power all the time or not? I don't know the answer.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm disappointed that the projector won't turn on by the receiver. Heck, there has to be a way around this, just what is it...

Anyhow, like you SC, I am running power amps fed from the receiver's amp outputs. They are Bryston and suck up lots of power with no signal so maybe we have to get used to pressing buttons cause I like to keep them off as much as possible.

I'll just write a start-up sequence for my wife Smile LOL

Cheers!

That is a tricky work around, but for $150 wouldn't you just rather get a universal remote? Do you have a universal remote SC? I can't remember you using one the other day.

I don't know about the "12 volt trigger" on a Sony but I'd really like the chance to try a 12 gauge trigger on one Laughing

hahaha, I know that feeling but I like the beast much more these days now that I spend more time watching than tweaking.

Yup!

That's the way I do it. Simply program a macro to turn on the required devices. Add a second button/icon to turn everything off.
