I've got an ecp 4100. I got it with 07ms tubes, not sure if they are original, or not. Does the focus mod apply to this projector, with these tubes. I'd love to tighten up the focus a little.

07MS tubes are not original to that projector, SD-187's are. If you can adjust the focus pots to either side of optimum electronic focus, you don't require any modification. All the ECP focus mod is, is the addition to or change of a single resistor to put the pot in range of the adjustment. Other than that if your optical focus is correct you might need to adjust the stig and flare (beam) adjustments.

Thanks for the reply. I have focus on both sides of optimal, so I guess I don't need the mod. The projector is evenly focused from corner to corner fairly well. I'm just looking for a little extra focus. Are the stig & flare adjustments done through the magnets on the tube necks?

Yes they are, but keep in mind that all ES focusing tubes lose focus over time. That set has either had the tubes replaced already, or it was a late version of the 4100, but if the tubes have been on but in standby mode (no light emitting with the set on) for a long time, say 3000 hours or more, the focus will be a bit soft. Tweak the astig magnets, check for test pattern dot roundness on either side of optimal focus. If that's all good, then that's as good as the focusing will get.

Curt, wouldn't that have been a 4500 to come standard with 07MS tubes?

Nope, I've seen a few late model 1993/94 4100s in with stock 07MS tubes. I think that's about the time that Sony switched to the later tubes.
