For today I planned to mod the LVPS....potentiometer and the 2 papst fans...BUT...

Looking at the potentiometer....there wasn't any...
Instead there is a small pcb....and I think this should be a full controlled regulator (perhaps with a slow (RC) start of the filament voltage)

Does anyone recognize this board?

I will check the voltage to see how/if it's working correctly after the fan replacement

My 8500 is right over my head and to the right a bit. I have no hushbox either but I don't notice the fans. I haven't torn it down to see if anyone has modded them already but I'm gonna guess no based on the fact the LVPS didn't have the filament mod when I got it. <shrug> Perhaps it's like white noise to me now and I just don't hear it.
