Hello All
Many moons ago (2001) I purchased a BG800 from Curt . I used it for a while then sold it to a fellow locally and upgraded. The PJ has been good but it is getting on in years and hours. I recently repaired his SMPS by fixing bad solder joints. This was about 6 weeks ago.
Last night he called me and said the PJ went horribly out of focus and needed convergence. I can't be sure that it really was a convergence issue because I never saw it and it could have actually been out of focus and not convergence at all. Today he called me and said it got worse and worse and then for a period of about 15 minutes went back to being perfect. After 15 mins of being perfect the tubes went black and there is no image at all. Upon power up there is a squealing sound. The squealing stops after a couple seconds and is replaced by a ticking sound coming from the focus block. All the yellow LEDs on the focus board are on and the red LED is off.
I instructed him to re-seat the SMPS and pull out the convergence board a couple of inches in order to eliminate that. The result was the same.
Based on what he has told me I believe the issue is probably a problem in the focus block or the focus board.
Any other ideas or suggestions before I head over for some hands on troubleshooting?

Thanks

I had an 801s that blew a focus block, it was leaking HV through a crack in the plastic molding. It was more of a hissing sound though.
