So I finally got my screen mounted up using ecrabb's excellent diagrams from my other post. I need to make a black border now and I'm looking for some ideas from you guys. A couple ideas I was thinking about were a) use 2x4s wrapped in velvet and screw them directly to the wall or b) screw 1x4s to the wall and than mount the velvet-wrapped 2x4s to that.

The screen sits flush with the wall on one side (1 3/8" thick) and the other side sits ~1/2" from the wall because the wall isn't true I guess. With the state of the wall, I think I'll need something thicker than just a 2x4 to come up past the edge of the screen.

How would you guys mount the border to the wall? If I wrap the 2x4s in velvet before mounting , than I'm not sure how to screw them on without having the screwheads show. If I wait to stick the velvet on until after I mount the 2x4, than I am unsure of how to do so as I have a very small gap between the top of the screen and the ceiling and about a 2" gap between the screen and the walls on either side.

I used self adhesive felt strips, 40mm wide. From the hardware store.
