|

I have a Barco Data 801s with very nice tubes, but the chassis has almost 10.000 hours on it. The image is still pretty good, but it is pulsing a bit when displaying images. The lines in NTest are a bit wobbly and a bit soft.
I read on several forums that replacing the caps on the neck boards will make the image more stable and the colors will improve too. I want to replace them with the following:
2 x 25V 22µF 85˚C --> 25V 22µF 105˚C Panasonic FC radial elec cap
2 x 25V 220µF 85˚C --> 25V 220µF 105˚C Panasonic FC radial elec cap
25V 100µF 85˚C --> 25V 220µF 105˚C Panasonic FC radial elec cap
250V 10µF 85˚C --> 250V 10µF 105˚C ???
I can choose between 2 types of caps for the 250V one: Vishay 151 RLH Aluminium Radial Cap,250V,100uF and the Panasonic Al electrolytic cap ED type A,100uF 250V
A member of the dutch htforum told me that the panasonic is of a different series. Since I am not that familiar with all the terms presented in the datasheets, I was hoping someone here could tell me the difference between the FC and ED types or if I should go for the Vishay.
I also want to upgrade the caps on the SMPS to improve picture quality.
Which caps should I replace on this board?
On the images from eisseman's website, the RGB path on port 3 and 5 boards are replaced by bigger caps.
When searching for replacement caps for port 3 and 5 boards, the size of the replacement caps are the same as the orginal unlike the ones from Greg. Should I step up the voltage to 50V for these caps?
Will this improve my picture quality as well?
I found some older topics on this forum on replacing the caps on the port 3 board (https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=206.html
My setup: HTPC (nvidea 8800 GT) -> 10m DVI -> moome external -> port 3

I made some screenshots to record the baseline from which I start the modding.
What do you think of these? I will make some sharper ones of the ntest.

What resolution you are using? You wont get very sharp image with es focusing tubes with high res.
That curve in vertical lines seems more like deflection/sync issue. I'm pretty sure those caps wont help to that problem.
It's still good idea to chance those few 100 uF 85deg caps to smps primary section.

I am running at 1280 x 720 @ 60 Hz.
Because I use Port 3, i need to set the HPhase all the way to 14. I played around with powerstrip, but that did not work for me very well.
When I connect to port 5, the HPhase can be set to 50. Is this preferred?

Just connected my moome box to Port 5 and the image is less soft and the linearity is perfect now. The image seems less soft as well. It is now connected with 1.8 meter vga - bnc cable. I guess I get an even better picture with a HQ 30cm cable.
The image is still shaking a bit vertically, so I hope i can remove this shaking with new caps. I am not going to upgrade the port 3 card as I won't use it. Can I remove the Port 3 card to increase air flow?
Kind regards,
Bart
