Im fairly new to the crt world i have a vph 1271 &enjoy it but having a problem with dark scenes where its hard to see peoples faces and scenes is this a limitation due to the low lumens of this unit or a adjustment issue or due i need one of those cards with gamma adjustment ive seen? any help would be great!

A lot of variables come into play, so we need more info. Tell us a little about source(s) and how it's connected to the projector. Regardless, with CRT, if you're not using a device with low-level gamma boost you'll have to pick whether you want absolute black OR shadow detail down to the bottom. You can't have both without low-level boost.
More important, do you have a setup DVD such as AVIA or DVE or even a DVD with the THX Optimizer on it? Have you used a pluge pattern to verify you're not crushing or clipping blacks? Used it to adjust brightness? By what method did you adjust brightness and contrast?

Bias up (with brightness on 50%) and/or G2 measured and adjusted should do the trick
