I'm being called upon more and more to diagnose RPTVs... including a potential paying gig tonight. Is there a good source of service info online?
The set in question is a Phillips 60" HD model 60pp9202, and I'm hoping to find the tube p/n so I can test the tube with my CR-70.

Gotta take paying work too... Gotta fund these expensive hobbies!
I may be selling my nicest speakers soon, to help pay for the landscaping.

Now lets' see if I can fly in like some kind of Messiah in flip-flops and save this RP P16 tube just as I've saved three P19s and three P16s (from FP stuff.)

And now for The RRRRRREST of the Story!

Put eyes on the set in question: The red tube output is fine... The TV repair guy that wants to collect the set for repair condemned the red tube based on the owners description: Geometry is out of whack.
Looks like the red top and bottom bow at the very least is severely tweaked: R does not match G&B by at least 20% at the left-right centerline, at the top and bottom extremes.
Took a few pics which I will post in the AM I hope, but my first impression is STKs. Any thoughts?

Attached is a pic of the red geometry problem... Simply replace the STKs with -180s and be done with it?

Two tubes down, one to go. I'll be stripping and ripping tonight and will start rebuilding the thing this week.

More then likely the convergence ic's. I'm pretty sure the current upgrade for whats in that set is STK394-160E's but let me check my notes later.

Let me just clarify my last post. Its more likely the ic's but there are other components that can cause it but all within the convergence section (resistor's). Also did you check the solder joints on the convergence ic's. This is very common and sometimes all that is needed is to resolder. I'll still double check the ic numbers for you later.

Poked around but did not have my multi-meter or much else in the way of tools... AND the service manual was locked in a phone which requires MS ActiveSync 4.5 to get out (some bahstahd stole my thumbdrive so I dumped it on my phone, but then could not get it into my laptop... The whole exercise started to turn silly so I bailed.)

One quick test for the STK is to take something non metalic and put pressure on each pin as it enters the STK's body. I've seen them fall right out as they come unsoldered inside the IC. Go out for a drink and come back with one of those little straws Laughing

If I go out for a drink I'll stay out!
