I have had this 4000G close to 1 year now. Since I set it up, I have never had problems with it except some minor issues.
About 2 weeks ago, the convergence started drifting. Now its to the point where I have to re converge every time I want to watch tv or a movie.
Does anyone know what part is starting to fail? Would replacing caps help and, on which board?

You might try reseating all the boards in the registration board tray too, I did that and it cleared up some problems. While your there look for leakey caps. Also check the big caps in the LVPS and the HVPS. If they go outta spec it can cause problems.

I love 15 year old technology that was designed on the fly ( many mid production line changes ) Mr. Green

The first thing I would do is to check the battery on the CPU to see if it still OK. I forget what the minimum kafluie voltage is but when it goes below that, all kinds of Barco stuff starts to happen Laughing

I would agree with Chip. This sounds like a battery that is about to die. It needs the battery power to hold the convergence memory when it is turned off.

Lots of help here. I will check the battery voltage tomorrow. I think the minimum is 3.6v. I should have it in my notes somewhere. This will give me a chance to check and re seat the boards. I was reading another thread and it was suggested changing caps in the video chain. Forgive my asking but, what boards make up the video chain? Newbie question I know!

Well, the battery checks out at 3.65v. Reseated all the boards that I saw but, no improvement. The projector does not stay converged for more than 1 1/2 hours. I tried configuring for different resolutions to see if it would help but, to no avail. Guess its cap changing time. Before I go and dig in, I will leave the cover open and see if heath could be the cause, although it seldom climbs over 22 deg. in the HT. Any suggestions as to where to begin changing caps for the most immediate results (LV or HV power supplies, neck boards etc.)?

Im curious. When it goes out of convergence is it always the same color(s) and is it always the same direction(s). Also do the adjustment values stay the same when it goes out or do they revert back to the previous value?

Also, does the 4000G have thermal fuses like the x600 series. If so, it won't gradually go out but the fuse pops and it jumps out. If it's set up correctly, the center should stay in place.

The blue and red seem to drift and I never noticed what the setting was. As for thermal fuse Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation .
So I decided I would do a complete set up from beginning just to check if the mechanicals are still in line. Then it dawned on me! I never checked the raster centering on this thing. I just did and it looks off. Now I looked into the manuals and I can't find the procedure for raster centering, the very basics of pj set up Embarassed . Can anyone lend a hand?

Your battery is OK. I'd swap convergence yoke connections to see if you can isolate the drift to one or more tubes. I'd use www.caig.com to clean all connector contacts, or it could be a bad part on the reggie output board (convergence output board) as it runs pretty hot.

There's no real way to change the raster centering on these sets..

The 4000G should have centering rings mounted on the deflection yoke. If not it should be fairly easy to get some yokes from a set that has them.

Thanks for the replies.
I will try to clean the contacts first and see what happens. There are centering rings for the astigmatism procedure.

I did a complete setup yesterday night. With the cover open the registration seemed to stay put. Only time will tell. Something is bugging me. When I put up a cross hatch, the left side of the screen has 3 rgb lines and I cant figure out what is causing this. I verified pj is square to screen, toe ins are OK. I took a few pictures. They are pretty blurred but we can see enough to get a general idea.
