Greetings! I have a (recently acquired) Mitsubishi WS-55411 RPTV. I'm using HDfury and Box1020 for the Blu-ray HDMI input. (I might use this on the TiVo Series 3 HD as well - if not by sharing, then with another pair of devices.)
I've noticed what I consider significant overscan:

The images are taken from video transferred through TiVo Desktop. The second and fourth images illustrate what is visible on the Mitsu. Note: The second 4:3 SD image shows the overscan when the TV is using Standard display mode and the TiVo is in Full aspect ratio, 16:9/1080i Fixed mode. It's not stretched-to-fit in this case, but the visible area when stretched is consistent.
Now, maybe this is par for the course and I'm just noticing it now! Feel free to disabuse me of my preconceptions, but would it be advisable to reduce this overscan somewhat? I'm thinking more about Blu-ray movies and things like that, where it might be good to truly see the entire frame, even if the cinematographer framed the shots with the TV "safe area" in mind.
Is this the sort of thing that can be accomplished during a calibration visit? Other suggestions/recommendations?
Clues/advice welcome - thanks!
- Joe
