I have a PIONEER DVR-550 player, and DVDO VP30 Scaler, if set them (both machines) in full range color (0-255 PC) the brightness must set too high, in the range of (26-235 VIDEO) the brightness and contrast is OK! But what is the correct setting?
My PJ is SONY G70 CRT with HDFury play in 1080p/60Hz!

I setup everything for 0-255 (PC) and i see little upgrade in the image!! ok! but why i like the 16-235 (VIDEO) image more? the new image is little dark, and the brightness of DVDO is high! the white images in TV program is very white!

What I gathered from the article is you should be setting up everything to VIDEO levels

The article indicates that ALL video content we use (DVDs, BluRay, etc) is stored in 16-235 format, so you should display it the same way. It also says you should get a source of blacker-than-black (DVE, or the THX Optimizer on any THX disk), and if you can raise the brightness and see the BTB signal, you've got it set right.

Yes i do that, my setup 0-255 is whith the THX OPTIMIZER, but the image is little darker, lost some details in dark, and the brightness in the SCALER is very high, then i back in the VIDEO 16-235. I think is better for my eyes!!
But all this setup again because IFB-FULLHD HDMI 1.3 !!!! now i have the HDFury, the card comes September-Octomber.

After reading that....

I'm setting up for Video Levels.

I believe the PS3 re-maps RGB when set to full and I guess it does a fantastic job of it but Video levels seems "correct" so I'm going to set that up.

I wonder if you did the blacker than black adjustment for R, G and B individually to get each color to just pass it then combine them for a 20 IRE color temp test how it would measure out VS how it would actually look shadow detail wise?
I wonder how many would prefer more detail in the lower end VS accurate color

My older plasma is like that. Plenty of detail in the low end, but it's all green! Thumbs Up
