hi guys,
i just got a runco dtv-943, plugged a dvd player to it, turned
it on and the picture looked great, it was set up as a ceiling
mount image, i reversed the image to table top, now the
image is really dark, i haven't done any other adjustments,
anyone know why this might happen? anyone ever have
this happen on any other pj?
thanks!

Check the brightness and contrast settings. Sounds stupid, but the set will use a different memory location when you flip the image, and if the brightness and contrast are set differently, then that could be the problem.

thanks curt,
both were set at 50 each, before and after reversing the scan, even after
reversing i bumped each up to 80 but didn't even help it get brighter, i was
looking into the lens, still very dark, the tubes have only very slight wear,
looks like 2:35 wear on blue and green, i rate them maybe a 7 or 8, (that's
only judging with a flashlight) i haven't had the lens off, barely visible with
a flashlight, pj has 4300 hours, all 3 tubes were bright before, now all 3
are dim...

What happens if you reverse the image back to where it was before?

Sounds like flipping it over caused a bad contact. I would try reseating everything and looking for bad solder joints.

i hadn't tried flipping it back yet, thought i would ask here first,
but i will do that and see what it does, the pj is at a friends house
30 miles away so it will be the weekend before i can get back to
it again, i'll try reseating them as well,
thanks

Try reversing the image first to see if that does it before reseating the boards. Did it get bumped or jolted?

no bumps or jolts or movement in any way, i flipped the image while it sat in the same spot,
just lifted the cover, 2 screws to lift the top tray, and flipped the 6 connectors, 3 on each
board,

Try flipping it to ceiling mount again. Changing the scan shouldn't affect anything as you've already guessed. Can't see what you've bumped by flipping the connectors.

Possibilities if changing to ceiling mount again doesn't brighten it up:

-bad SMPS board- the brightness control circuitry is on that board
-bad video input board- all video processing circuitry is on that board.

Uh... Was the pj powered on or off when you flipped the image?
