|
|
I received a Ext-HDMI box from moome about a week ago. This was an exchange that he and I arranged, so I am not sure if I have one of the brand new 1.3 boxes, or a legacy External box. This was to replace the XG cards I could never get working on my XG projector from Moome.
Here is a description of what I received:
There is a component input, then two HDMI inputs, then SDIF Output, then an IR face with two buttons, one to choose the input, the other to power on and off. To the right of that there is a red light and a yellow light just below it. Finally there is a 9v input for the power supply. The other side of the box has only a VGA output, and round black holes covered for what looks like the intent to put BNC connectors for RGBHV. There is a remote that seems to only power on and off the box. I can not get it to change the input no matter which button I press.
Now to my problem with the box. I can connect a source to all three inputs, and I get an image for all three inputs via the VGA output, so the box is working. However, the Component is a FAR different image than is the two HDMI images. HDMI looks like I have turned up the brightness by ALOT, and the color and contrast down by a bit. No significant resolution differences, just a complete lack of contrast ratio and punch on the HDMI.
I am using HD-DVD, PS3 for the HDMI, and I am getting the same results with either, and it is not following a cable either.
The box does not appear to have a GAMMA adjustment, as it is sealed tightly by four tiny phillips screws, and I have nearly stripped one trying to get the box open to see if there is a GAMMA pot to adjust.
Any suggestions on:
How to get the remote to work with this unit besides power?
What might be the problem with the HDMI inputs?
Thanks in advance!

Is there a trick to getting the box to respond to the remote? My remote is only responding to the power button. If I could get the remote working, it sounds like I will get some GAMMA help here..
Is there a POT to adjust inside the box? Nothing on the outside. I have tried to open, but the tiny philips screws are really jammed in there, and I have nearly stripped on trying to open it. Should I drill out the screw to get to a pot inside??
Curt, it is quite impressive to only need to google your first name and CRT, and the first result is your website. WOW!
Hope you can help...
It sounds like it is the original box. I did some more testing, and it is horrible on the Toshiba, but not as bad on the PS3, but still not what I would like....

See the EXT-HD FAQ which states:
| Quote: | How do I adjust gamma on this box?
See this Gamma Tuning Guide for Moome products. It explains how the 20 step gamma adjustment works with both the remote and the pot inside the unit, and what the blinking or solid yellow light means. |
The internal pot is adjusted to maximum by default so no need to open the box or adjust it unless you have a specific need for a smaller gamma adjustment range.

Thanks for the link. I have used this document in the past two days, but my unit is not responding to my remote, so I am SOL..... I have not opened the box - yet.
Can you tell me if the GAMMA adjustment will affect both Component and HDMI or just HDMI?
