The colors seem washed out to me. The tubes are good, nice and white. I read the instructions on this site and am afraid I don't really understand them. Can some one explain the procedure in terms a dumb construction contractor can understand? Maybe this is something I shouldn't be messing with?

Bump.

Maybe G2 is not the problem. It also looks like I would need an extender board.

Any ideas?

No extender board needed or anything other special equipments. Jump over that first high voltage adjustments and start reading from black balance section.

Basic idea is to set all color adjustments and brightness to mid position and contrast to 0. Then just project test picture that have black bar on it (or totally black picture) and see if tubes are so dark that black bar cant be seen from raster. If not, then you have to adjust G2 pots. In 1208 it's needed to use jumpers in rgb amps before adjustment. Sometimes it's also needed to turn those rgb amp "brightness" pots (next to jumpers) to minimum to get proper blacks.

Could also be source related problem, it could have wrong brightness or gamma settings...

Thanks Ile.

I'll give it a try to see what happens. The sources are PS3 and FiOs HD set-top box to HDMI switcher to HDFurry Gamer Edition to RTC2200 to BG1208.

Peace,
Joel

I think that RTC2200 can cause washed out look, if gamma boost is set too high. Then it's boosting also mid range shades little...

I'm not very familiar with those sources, but those could have some sort of gamma settings in menu.

It's still good idea to check G2 levels with black picture and then adjust brightness level with some test disc.

Thanks Ile. I haven't had a chance to try anything out yet. I'm about to take the PJ down so I can close in the ceiling, so it may be a while before I get to try this out.

Peace,
Joel
