Whoah. I'm kind of getting tired of comic book movies - one after the other after the other... But, that does look pretty cool. The genre has certainly provided excellent HT action demo material, that's for sure.
I can't believe how soon they start promoting the crap out of these movies! 220 days until release! 7+ months out still.
The Flash site sure is super-shweet.

I saw the trailer for this before the Dark Knight this weekend. It looked really good to me. I also thought "The Spirit" looked really good. When I say "good" I mean movie eyecandy and not that either would be great films or anything. I'm not a comic book fan so I have no expectations for any of the DC Comics or Marvel Comics movies. Perhaps that makes them that much more enjoyable for me.

SC and Kal, I gather you haven't read Watchmen. Trust me, you would never ever confuse it with a typical "comic book." Yes, it's drawn in comic-book style and even features super-heroes -- but it is one of the most amazing, intense, multi-dimensional stories I've ever read or experienced, in ANY medium. I'll be amazed if they can do justice to the book.
I still pull out Watchmen and read it once in a while. It's really good.

Yep, and longer for the Blu-ray.
It's too far out, I'll forget about it soon...

| kal wrote: | So I never really read comic books as a kid and have a question:
What's the difference between a "comic book" and a "graphic novel"? Are they not the same thing and "graphic novel" is what you call it once you're past the age of 14 so that you don't feel like a loser for still reading comics?

"Graphic novel" does not have a strict definition in the industry. But, they generally have these characteristics:
1) They are a type of comic book.
2) They do not go on forever like a serialized comic book--they have a beginning, middle and end.
3) Their story lines tend to be more complex and lengthy, similar to a novel.
4) They are generally aimed at mature audiences.
What Gary said is true. Even if you don't read comic books of any kind, you should read The Watchmen.
Science Fiction has two awards given yearly: the Hugo and the Nebula. The Watchmen was published in 1986-87 and is still the only graphic novel to win a Hugo.
Frankly, I have no idea how this is going to come off as a movie. If well done, I see the people that have read the Watchmen liking it and everyone else not liking it. Alan Moore wrote this with two goals:
1) Demonstrate that comic books could be as complex and rich as any other story telling medium--he wanted to create something that have the weight and density of Moby Dick, and
2) As such, have a story so multi-layered that its full weight could not be understood without repeated readings.
It is the second one that worries me. You really do need to read it 2 or 3 times to understand all the layers. Given that movies generally have less density that any other medium, I don't know how the movie can be anything but a weak imitation of the story line.
I am both excited and worried.
Other than The Watchmen, I think Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is also worth a read. Far better than any Batman movie ever made--frankly, that is the story that should be made into a movie! But, we have to dumb down everything for movies!
