I am trying to reload my pj settings for my XG75 from my pc but it always stops part way through with an error.

It loads the system settings but not the d-con eeprom settings? The reason I am doing this is the settings seem to have been lost/corrupted after my htpc crashed. It happened once before and I just reloaded the settings from my pc and was back in business. Not sure why the eeprom wont reload now?

I have tried searching the forum but cant find anything.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

David

You shouldnt loose your settings just because your pccrashed. Your pc has nothing to do with projector memory.

So I believe from what your saying is after you fixed your pc and are sending the projector the same resolution and refresh rate from before, that the projector will not lock onto the signal entry you have saved for that same setting.

As far as trying to reload the data with the pc: is it the same pc you used the last time and was the saved data corrupted in any way when your pc had issues.

Your system board may be starting to lose its ability to lock onto saved entries.

If you have a saved entry for the resolution your trying to send the projector, try selecting it in the menu to see if it locks on.

Your data may probably still be there, its just that it wont lock to it.

macgyver655,

Just to recap, I was watching a film via my htpc, it crashed (bsod), when I rebooted, the pj wouldnt relock on the signal entry I have stored, even if I go into the menu and select it.

I have the settings saved on the pc (the same pc I use to watch) but when I try to reload the d-con eeprom settings, I get a "command ACK not received" error?? The system eeprom will reload.

Does that mean the system board needs to be replaced?

Thanks for your help

Dgeorge,

As macgyver655 said, the thing that potentially changed was your PC, not your PJ. So I would look at restoring the PC resolution and refresh settings. If your PC had a BSOD, chance are it is now running in SAFE MODE and just getting out of that would fix the problem.

As far as that error goes about the D-CON restore, I have 4 XG on hand and they all give that error for restoring D-CON but it doesn't seem to matter because restoring the system file brings with it all the SIGNAL ENTRY items. I'm pretty sure only some versions of XG use the D-CON restore while the newer models use SYSTEM restore exclusively so I wouldn't worry about the error.

The command ACK not received means that the projector did not respond to the pc when it was asked. Could be various reasons for this but lets not worry about that just yet.

You didnt say if your sending the projector the same resolution and refresh rate that you have a saved entry for, but I'll assume it is.

Does the projector say unregistered signal when it syncs to the pc?

Assuming it does, I would try this: With the pc set at the resolution you were using, make a new signal entry as a temporary and see if it locks to this new entry. If it does then go to the original entry and do a data copy and save it to the new entry. If the original data is still in the original entry then the new entry should now have the original settings. See how that works.

Just wanted to post an update.

After leaving the pj alone for the summer I finally fired it up again to take another crack at it. It turns out the problem was my Powerstrip settings. They must have got corrupted when the pc crashed. I tried a system restore but that didnt work so I tried restoring the settings from a backup of the file and BINGO! back in business.

Thanks to all who tried to help. As some of you suggested, the problem was the pc, not the pj.

Lesson learned

WTF???

After running fine for a few days I lost the picture again! This time the pj wasnt sensing any input signal and it turned out it had lost the settings! No problem, I reloaded them from my pc and was off to the movies again.

After a few more days the pc crashed again and lost the convergence again. It was PowerStrip again but I restored the settings from a backup and was watching movies in no time.

Now the convergence is all gone again and no matter what I do to restore PowerStrip I just get "unregistered signal". If I start up the NEC pc program and pull up the gain controls they are all pretty much zeroed?? Shouldnt they be at the settings I used to converge etc???

I'm not sure at this point if the problem is with PowerStrip or the pj. I'm almost ready to toss the pc and pj in the back of the car drop them at the side of the road.

Any help appreciated

David

This is how you can backup powerstrip settings for a particular custom timing-

display profiles > configure > advanced timing options

beside the Cancel button is an icon, mouseover it and it says "copy timings to clipboard"

press that and paste them into notepad, looks something like this-

PowerStrip timing parameters:
1680x1050=1680,48,32,80,1050,3,6,21,118800,532

There is more but i deleted it as you only need the first part.

Copy the part in bold. You can save the text file as a backup also.

Make a new shortcut to powerstrip and edit it.

In target

"C:\Program Files\PowerStrip\pstrip.exe" /t:1680,48,32,80,1050,3,6,21,118800,532

This is where you paste that bold part.

Now you can doubleclick this shortcut and it will load the timings and it should make your pj lockon to the signal since it looks "familiar".

You know you can create a new input and copy the settings from the other input?

Then it takes about 2 mins to create a new input and get it converged.

And copy your powerstrip settings out so you don't lose them.

Jesse: I will be sure to try that

Mark: Sorry if I'm slow but why would I want to copy the input if the original doesnt seem to work? Also, when I look at the gain control settings in the pc program, should they not be at the various levels I set them at when I converged? Right now they are all zeroed. Even if I reload the system and d-con eeproms from my backup, they are all zeroed. Does this sound right?

Thanks

If your PC changes the timings, then the projector won't recognise them. Even if it's only a tiny change.

So you copy your input settings from the input that you put all the work into, and the new one will be 95% converged.

As long as it isn't saved with zeroes.

I've never played with the PC connection, I've never had to. Every time I change my res setting on the PC, I just copy the pj settings from another res and tweak it.

The other day I copied my 1920 x 1080i 96hz res to 1920 x 802p 72hz and it was just about perfect. Tweak Phase, Position, Lin and Key for 2 mins and I was there.

It worked!!! Thumbs Up

but it only sticks when I create the new entry? If I manually select the input, it goes back to unregistered signal. So after I create the entry, is there something else I need to do?

Thanks for the guidance!

Not sure why but it is now sticking after creating another entry? Whats weirder is that the original entry is now working again??

Thanks again for all the help
