I have a fairly mint BD808s with just over 1k hours, seems to be reasonable, and throws a nice looking picture.

I have to settle for a slightly smaller screen, since the projector is much bigger than the 701, and wants to be sunk into the wall. I guess it needs a little breathing space at the rear, considering the fans blow out that way.

So far I have done the following:

Strip down the unit and clean everything, inspecting for dud solder joints and the like.

Re-soldered the LVPS with high silver solder, ditto with most of the other boards.

Changed caps that looked iffy (only 2, on LVPS).

Bleed tubes as there was no air bubble at all (unit has sat for 5 years), in doing this I went the whole way and replaced the coolant with Sony colour corrected stuff.

Done basic mech setup.

Done zone focus and zone astig, roughly at least.

Done conv, messed with IRIS (Cool flashing lights!)

For the hell of it I watched a DVD

Now for the other suff... I'm not sure about....

Not sure about the big capacitor on the Horz output board (it's a motor run capacitor) I was thinking about replacing it with one rated at 380V instead of 230V. Good idea or not? The existing one tests ok ish, but 22 uF instead of the rated 30uF. The new one tests 38uF and is as above rated for 380V.

Can the projector be mounted from the fairly hefty plate on the bottom, or does it need something extra? I was thinking of making the near standard (it seems) unistrut mount. I only ask because if the projector drops on my head it's going to do more than hurt.

What is the best way to improve convergance, before resorting to the electronic controls? Moving the focus yokes? If so how is that best done?

Anything else I should be doing?

I tried a search, but it wasn't helpful, mostly due to result overload.

Leave it alone!

Make sure the set is ventilated, but that big cap has never failed on me in any Barco. THe more you mess around, the bigger chance you stand of killing something that's working just fine. Trust me on that one..

Ok can't argue with that. I wanted to get everything done that needed doing, because once it's stuck to the ceiling, it becomes harder to access.

It's good to know about the big cap, because when those go it can be messy. I'm used to them being used in motors, where they last 1k to 5k hours, and often the metal can type explode when they do go. If in the projector they are just about everlasting, then that is good news.

Sounds like it's time to get some stainless steel unistrut then Smile

Good plan. I watched some demo clips in HD, don't have anything else yet. The demo stuff is very impressive though, can't wait for the first movie.

After that the projector has to go up out of the way, at the moment it's sat on top of it's flight case, and taking up far too big a chunk of space. Exactly where I want to be sitting too Sad
