I just got back from my public library and they now have Blu-rays for 1 week check out !!!!! It's about time my tax dollars did some good!!!
They currently have about 120 titles, a bunch of animated, Cars, Ratatouille, but also 300, 10,000BC, The National treasures, all the Harry potters, AVP, the Bank Job, Blood diamond, Blackhawk Down, Clockwork Orange, the Departed...
So go steal your kids library card and check out your local library!!

Cool! Still, if the libraries in the Chicago burbs are getting BD now, that means I should see them in Iowa by 2010.
Kiddin'. Thanks for the tip! I'll have the wife check it out. Next time she's at the "lieberry."

Hell, my local library has had DVD rentals for aeons, hundreds of titles -- and about 5 that I'd ever want to see. They'll have to do a lot better than that with BD to make it worthwhile...

Does everyone remember the early argument that because of the datum size on the disk that scratches in common day handling would easily result in unusable disks? I wondered how this impacted Netflix's assets in this area (higher than DVD worn use), and wonder how the libraries are checking the returned disks to insure the last person didn't damage them.

Blu Ray has a scratch resistant coating that prevents damage pretty well.
If you haven't seen the video where someone runs a pizza cutter over the disc and then shows that it still works then...

To keep them from damage you just have to have library patrons that care which a YMMV type of thing.
