|
|
Can you all please recommend the best, moderately priced scaler to place between my Onkyo receiver and G70VR??
I'm running HDMI to the Onkyo and HDMI from the Onkyo to the G70VR. I definitely want a scaler that won't introduce any handshake issues along the way.
Appreciate all your advice as this will be my first scaler purchase.

Oh, I'm running 3 components to the Onkyo via HDMI:
1) Xbox 360 at 1080p/60
2) PS3 at 1080p/60
3) Dish HD receiver 1080i/60 or 720p/60
I'd like to output 1080p/72 to the Moome HDMI card. Looking for advice as I'm somewhat new to all this.

I think Gino said a VP50pro can output 1080p@72Hz if you keep the pixel clock below 165Mhz, I'm not sure how he manages that. I would be concerned that your G70 could get a little on the soft side at that high a refresh rate because the bandwidth requirements, but it is a VR so it might do great. I get 1080p/72Hz but its with an HTPC.
You would have to wait for a new Moome card, I think everything but the new NEC card and the forth coming EXT-FullHD is limited to 1080p/60.

Thanks for the reply! Did not know the current Moome HDMI only did 1080p/60. That's fine with me. So assuming I stay at 1080p/60 for my output, would you still recommend the VP50 pro?? Or is there something else? I would like to have a scaler that allows for at least great gamma correction/boost, but grayscale calibration would be a nice benefit as well.

OK, based on my buddy's recommendation...I'm considering the Lumagen VisionHDP. Here's my proposed setup. Please comment or advise as needed...
Xbox 360 (1080p/60), PS3 (1080p/60), Dish 622 Receiver (1080i/60) -> Onkyo Receiver (HDMI Inputs) -> Lumagen VisionHDP (DVI) -> Output 1080p/60 to G70VR.
I'm mostly interested in having the Lumagen VisionHDP for grayscale and gamma calibration, but also for scaling the Dish 622 to 1080p/60. Does this sound like it will work? I seem to remember reading the Lumagen VisionHDP takes 1080p/24 input...will it take the 1080p/60 OK?
Thanks in advance!

we need a price to best recommend
I would reconsider 1080p/60 in 16:9 though, a bit much, 1280x720p/72 would look much better IMHO if you are into film refresh rates

OK, I think I'm going to go with 1080i/60 from the 360, PS3, and Dish 622. Then I'll have the scaler output 1080p/60. In addition, I'll utilize the gamma and grayscale adjustments on the scaler. I'd like to keep my scaler cost close to $1,000. I know a new Lumagen VisionHDP is a bit more in new condition. I had my G70VR calibrated for 1080p/60, so not sure that I'd want to go with anything @ 72. I know pans won't be as smooth but I can live with that.

Gary, I ended up getting the Lumagen VisionHDP. My screen is 1:78.1, but I might try setting up the Lumagen with 1920x817p or 800p and 72hz for 2:35.1/2:40.1 material. Wonder if my G70VR could handle the 72hz by using the reduced rez? It does a very nice 1920x1080p/60 right now.
