I helped a friend finish his basement, part of it is a HT space. I gave him a couple of ECP 3100's, plus he picked up a nice 4100 from Joel.

The 4100 has a wraparound problem... the image seems too wide for the raster... no front porch or back porch controls (no HTPC)... so it wraps around behind the image and causes horizontal banding/streaking when the image pans though the wrapped-around edge. Source: Toshiba HD-DVD HDMI through Dtrovision DVI Link. Same wrap-around problem with all transcoders and Moome EXT.

The problem is exactly as described here by Hazama 4 years ago:

I've been pretty frustrated with my foldover... and it got me thinking --- is there any H Blanking? That seems like it would solve my problem. I know V Blanking exists, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about H Blanking.

...

H Move still hasn't solved this... no matter how far I H Move, the picture is still too wide for some reason. If I H Moved all the way, it'd start wrapping on the other side.

...

This has honestly got me stumped. The raster is perfectly centered on my 1080i sources, and H move still creates a wrap on either edge, due to the image source being [???] too wide. I've got the raster all the way to right near the edge of the tube face, too, and again, it's perfectly centered.

...

When I take SIZE all the way down to zero... the problem remains, it uniformally scales with SIZE.

...

it's been six months and no change... it's been off for quite a while... it's a real shame...
... and I'm -still- completely clueless as to what the problem is.

The same source/converter/resolution combo works fine with on the ECP3100's (but one has red fungus and one has weird vertical bands on the right side... I'll post a screenshot in a separate thread to see if anyone recognizes the V banding problem [completely different than Cary's ECP fix]).

William Kosmann... did those Ehome remotes that I gave you work on your Marquees? I couldn't find the remotes to these ECP's... so those might've been ECP remotes. Anybody have an extra ECP remote?

I gotta tell you, even though I haven't touched these ECPs in 3 years, they throw a pretty damn good 84"w image after a 10 minute focus/geometry/convergence.

Wraparound- almost always due to the 'move' control being set incorrectly. Go into the 'H move' mode, and shift the image to get rid of the wraparound.

maybe you need to use a "t" connector to for H and V sync?

The MOVE control just moves the wrap-around from the left-side to the right-side. It's like it's a 8" wide image wrapped onto a 7" wide tube. SIZE and/or MOVE didn't help.

Sync is rock steady. I brought a T-connector with me, but didn't use it because it sync'ed up fine with separate H and V.

We also did the master reset... press RECALL and the magic red button. Successful... all settings wiped out and contrast defaulted down to 2. But 1080i still wraps around.

Clarence,

This happened to me when I was using this machine. Try changing inputs. I beleive 1080i only worked on input 01 if I'm remembering correctly.

Peace,
Joel

Thanks Joel. We were using Input 1-2. I'll try Input 0-1 tonight.

We tried Slot 0... no difference... 1080i still wrapped around. We swapped out input modules from the other ECPs... no difference. So we just switched the HDDVD player from 1080i to 720p... looks great.

Let me know if anyone has a wireless ECP remote to sell.

my ECP did that too... well its not doing ANYTHING right now, that its down for a bit, needs a new LV powersupply or the dallas chip. which i will be getting SOON Smile but 1080i did that all the time, very annoying, had to use 720p. maybe it just can't handle it? its weird.. my projector started shutting down about two weeks after i got HDTV...

Thanks John. PM me a shipping cost and your paypal address. I really appreciate it... doing convergence from the built in remote on a ceiling mounted projector is getting tiresome.

We found another weird thing on his ECP tonight. We hooked up a second source... his son's XBox (the original xbox, not the 360). He has the component cable, so we went to the xbox video setup panel, disabled 480P and 1080i, leaving only 720P and fed it into the receiver (Sony STR-DG910 which also converts component into HDMI). The HDMI then goes to the same dtrovision HDMI converter (similar to hdfury, probably a little better).

But even though the Xbox was set to 720P and the first source (Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD) was set to 720P, the convergence, size, and move were all off. I had to set up a separate source memory channel for it... now we have to press SOURCE UP UP or SOURCE DOWN DOWN to change between the memory channels for the 2 devices.

When pressing * on the wired remote, the H settings were 0.1 different. Is this another one of those pissy Xbox video timing issues?
