I may be able to pick up a set cheap - will it be much of improvement for my 8000, or is the color filtering the chief advantage of these lenses over the stock electrohome lenses? Also, can color filtering somehow be added to these lenses?

I'm not sure how much of a difference you would see, some say the difference in focus is night and day while others don't see as much of a difference. However you could still get the color filtering by changing the glycol to colored glycol like I did on my 8000 (I used the glycol out of a dead 801s)
