I recently bought a house that has an overhead Mitsubishi VS-2020 CRT projector with a retractable screen in the family room. It's all linked into an NEC system that controls everything. We were watching it a couple weeks ago, and then during the movie the screen just went up and the unit shut down. I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. Is there a fuse somewhere that I should look for? The NEC units still all turn on, but the screen will not come down and the VS-2020 unit will not turn on. This is baffling. The picture quality was not perfect, but it was definitely not bad for an older unit. Is this easily fixed or worth fixing?
Thanks for any help you could lend!![/b]

It sounds like the control system messed up. If you completely bypass the controls, will the projector power up? (plug the projector directly into the wall) Your projector only does 480i resolution, and parts are difficult to find(unless Curt has some) so it is probably not worth your time or money to fix if it is indeed the projector that is broke.

Thanks for your reply.
The projector is plugged into the wall outlet, but the "juice" runs into a small (3" by 5") black box first, and then into the wall outlet. I have no idea what the black box is, perhaps it's a step down transformer? Does this unit require a transformer? I'm not sure what else the thing could be.
There is also a cable that runs from the projector to the NEC unit, and that wire has a male connection at the NEC end of the wire that was pretty frayed. I tried to fix that connection a bit and replugged it into the NEC unit. But still nothing.
Any other thoughts? I'd really like to get it to work, even if picture is not the best.

Some pictures would help, I am having a somewhat hard time understanding the whole setup. If you could add a few pictures that would help. Or maybe someone else here might have some helpful input.

I had a Mits 1200 or 1210 (can't remember) here. I think the 2020 did 480p, so I'm guessing the NEC unit is a line doubler. Very few 2020s were sold, I threw out the only 1200 I had since I had it for 5 years and no one needed parts.
I would plug the projector directly into an AC outlet. If it still doesn't power up, frankly this is the one time I'd say upgrade. Your room is perfectly set up for another better/newer CRT projector, and since you're already here, there's lots of technical and moral support for you doing that..

Oh, that black box could be a current sensor for the screen, but like Brooklyn says, post some pix of the setup. Maybe the projector si fine, and your problem is elsewhere.

According to the specs on this page, it is a 480i set. However it would make sense it could be a line doubler, and would make the picture of higher quality.
