I just got a remote for a Sony VPH-1272. It works on my buddie's 1272 but not mine. are there any switches or settings that might need to be changed? Anyone have any ideas?

If it's like a G70, there are two tumbweels on the rear that need to be set at "0" and "1". There is also a menu setting for SIRCs (IIRC) that can enable the IR receivers on the PJ.

Kiev,
The remote that I sent you is for a 1292. Look on the back and you will see the 1292 designation and on the front it has the EM focus button for the 1292. The lower cover is from a 1271 so the number does not match, but I assure you it definitely is a 1292 remote. The 1292 remote will operate the 12xx projectors just fine. Have you tried new batteries yet? It may be that the receiver in your pj is not as sensitive as your buddies is. Here is a picture of it with the lower cover removed:

There is a Control S port on both the remote and the 1272. Since the remote seems to work, it might be the Control S port on the PJ thinks there is a plug inserted. If it does (even if one isn't) it turns off the IR detector on the PJ. Try inserting and removing a properly sized plug a couple of times to see if the jack is the problem. I would do the same on the remote for good measure.
