|
|
I have had my dwin since 2000. Recently it has developed a series of problems.
The first thing we noticed is a line down the center that is NOT related to converging. Occasionally it would develop static, like an old vcr that needed its tracking adjusted and then clears up. The problem could last from seconds to a few minutes. Simultaneously, it started turning itself off.
If you powered it back on, it would turn on. Sometimes it turns off immediately after being turned back on, sometimes not. My guess is that this has been happening off and on since Jan.
This weekend, when turned on, the picture was warped. After a few minutes it would go to the regular format selected. Then today when turned on, it powers on but the guns never engage.
The green light is solid and the fan is on. Without taking the cover off or dismounting it from the ceiling, i can see orange glow in the rear vent panel on the case. I have tried turning the trans scanner off and on, starting the trans scanner both before and after the projector and none of that seems to work.
I guess I am trying to decide it is fixable or just come to terms with its death.
I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.
thanks in advance for the help and advice

Well DWIN seems more or less to be gone at this point. They say they are open for service, but they haven't returned my emails or phone calls.
Since this set isn't very modular, what I can offer is to test/repair your power supply that is easily removed from the set, you can do it while the set is on the ceiling. If that checks OK, then it's something on the motherboard and would require the whole set to be sent in for service.
DWIN was charing $385 flat rate to repair almost anything in the set save for changing tubes. I can repair the power supply for less, but if the main board is toast or at least has a problem on it, it might be time to change the set and upgrade.
I am currently actively seeking dead and working DWINs so that I have a stockpile of parts here...

BTW, where are you located, you might want to add that on your profile, as others might be able to assist.

I got the projector top off but was not sure how to test the power supply. Can you explain that to me? Also does it require a high voltage meter?
thanks again for the help
