|
|
Hey there,
I got a Sony 1252Q on Craigslist the other day and have been fighting with it since to get a decent picture... A manual came with it but it must be printed or copied alot much is unreadable. Thus far I have figured out how to balance out the red and blue with the cross hairs for the center but the sides remain way off. and I have also focused the tubes with the lens screw things with the H pattern. The problem is when calibrating one place another becomes uncalibrated and I can see each individual tube color on the sides.
Pictures here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26319281@N02/
I also am having trouble with the inputs in general to begin with I used the vga to RGBHV and I figured the colors were just out of whack but I soon realized that when switching to S-video the colors are immaculate better than my laptop screen almost however unlike the vga cable with S-video I get a grainy almost little tiny lines (scan lines?) down the screen which is above barely noticeable and drives me insane. Ideally I would love for Vga to have the Oomph in terms of colors that the s-video has. I am testing both these cables from my laptop for both Vga and s-video and the Xbox 360 for Vga. I would say the only things I am going to plug in would be the Xbox and the Laptop for movies. But like I said the colors are pale with vga goldish color looks almost white or pale pale yellow...
But anyhow I hope this is the right section I would continue to read around but I feel like I have hit a wall... Anywho any help with this is much appreciated Thanks!

You need to get into the service menu. To do that you need to hold down the "test" button for 5-10 seconds or so. Make sure you have the full service remote, or remove the top dark grey cover to get to the bottom row of buttons. See here for manuals:

I am not sure what your input problem is. What resolution are you using? Have you tried different sources with the some problem?

Marshmello,
These projectors are complex pieces of hardware. To make the excellent picture they are capable of, they require many hours of setup time - a lot more than that for beginners because you'll be learning all about the process at the same time. I've setup 12xx's many times (as well as other CRT projectors), and it still took me 3 hours to get my friends 1272 where it needed to be PQ-wise - and that was for one source.
You need to a bunch of reading and learning and THEN try to setup the machine. Then, you'll want to set it up again, and probably a time or two after that because you'll get better each time as you learn the process and the machine's quirks.
Start with the most excellent CRT setup guide:
http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm
Then, read the installation manual front to back a couple of times and familiarize yourself with the process.
You can download a manual from Brooklyn's link and also see pics and familiarize yourself with the machine here:
http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony125x.shtm
After you've done all that - then, try doing a setup.
The process goes ROUGHLY like this:
1. Physical installation alignment. Start with the position described in the manual or in Sony PJcalc, then move the projector about 5% closer to the screen. Make sure the projector is level/plumb, square to screen, centered exactly on screen. Down the 1/8", preferably. With no source connected or turned on...
2. Do a full reset - reset all convergence and geometry settings to 128.
3. Expand test patterns with size to make them large enough to cover your screen, turn on "H" pattern.
4. Do optical focus then electronic focus, then tweak both again to optimize.
The next steps need to be done in order. If you go out of order (especially as a beginner), you'll chase your tail and probably make things worse instead of better:
5. Do green geometry per manual. Work the controls in pairs: size/linearity, bow/skew, pin/key. The process is iterative. Work size a little, then lin, then size, then lin. Move to bow, work key, then bow, then key, etc. until each aspect of geometry is as perfect as you can get it.
6. After you've gotten geometry as perfect as possible, you may need to tweek a corner or two with zone control. Use it as a last resort, and not too much. If you have to push a zone control too far from 128 (i.e. 255 or max.), then one of your geometry controls is bad. Start over and do it again.
7. Move on to red, and converge it to green, then
8. Move on the blue, and converge it to red (turn green off).
9. Turn on all three tubes and touch up zone if necessary.
One note - none of any of that is "calibration". What you're doing is focus, geometry and convergence - AKA full setup. "Calibration" typically refers to adjusting the projector's brightness, contrast, and color to faithfully reproduce the video signal - which you can do at practically any point after focus, geometry and convergence are done.
Enjoy all your hard work for a week or two and then do it again for an even better end result.
Welcome to the forum!!!

Artstan,
Read the manual referenced above. There are connectors under a cover you need to flip and swap - theyre under a cover, which is underneath the case cover around the built-in remote. You must do this with power OFF.
Welcome to the forum and read that manual!
