Hi,

I am new to the forum and hope that somebody can help me with a problem I just created Sad

I have had Barco projectors for many years, starting in 1999 with a 800, then a few 808s & 808s' so I am somewhat familiar with them.

The current one is a 808s with Iris3 and with about 2000 hours on it. The unit was new when I got it and it worked perfectly so far.
Tonight I was moving some equipment around in my cabinet and during that time the control cable came off the port at the back of the RCVDS800 switcher. The projector was actually running without an input source on.

I wasn't paying attention at first, but noticed the the fans weren't running. I turned everything off, plugged the serial cable back in and turned it on standby, then back on to input 1.

I unplugged everything, tried the pj standalone, but I can't get it to work anymore with or without the switcher. I am afraid that when the control cable came unplugged it may have touched some metal at that time and shorted something out. I believe that there is 30V running through that Sad

Here is what I can see.
Turning pj on: No fans. Some noises seem to indicate that high voltage is available; no image of any kind.

The neck board LED's are lit green, the G2 board show the red LED and one green LED off. The rest are on and there are several other green LED's running inside the pj.
The cover board with the dip switches shows the Processor cycles flickering. Don't know if that is normal.

I checked the 2 serviceable fuses on the G2/EHT boards are they both fine.

I can't believe I screwed this up. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!

Wolfgang

I tried 4 RGBHV sources on the switcher and then a component source as well (direct). All ports 4/5. I haven't tried the one S-video I have, but since the fans didn't come on I assume there is something else h gone bad.

That G2 boards red led indicates scan fail. That lonely one green led should be on, but if one in that line is off that indicates that some voltage is missing. If so, then you need to measure those soldered fuses in smps main board. F204 is for 30V line and F202 is for 9V line, these two voltages are used in control cable.

CHeck the fuses on the SMPS, there are about 10 of them. Guaranteed one is blown. It's also possible that more damage has been done to the SMPS. I can repair that if you can't track it down.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I looked at the LED's again and according to the description, the CONV (next to the red LED) and the 30V is out.

I'll take out the board and will check the fuses now.

I just checked the fuses on the G2 and the SMPS board.

The F204 fuse failed, all other soldered fuses seem fine. I just read Curt's great description for the 808 which also spoke about the sand filled regular fuses (which I only continuity tested before) and the SMPS one in the housing seems to show no ohm reading. I am no expert with the meter though...

I am a bit puzzled of what to do next. Replace fuses, replace SMPS? I like to get the pj going again asap, but want to make sure that I don't break anything else in the process.

Thanks again,

Wolfgang

Just replace fuses and see what happen. If there is still some problems fuses blow again.

The last weeks had been very busy, so I am late in thanking everyone for your fast and correct input.

I have to say that this is a high-quality forum! Never saw so much factual input on setup, configuration and trouble-shooting. Now I can't wait to upgrade my home theater Wink

Re. my issue, I was about to send the smps off to Curt for repair, but figured that I might try to replace at least the one fuse (F204) before. That was it. Works perfectly!

Thanks again, specially to Curt.
