|
|
Anyone have a suggestion for software ( preferably freeware) that will allow me to backup copy protected DVD's (my own) to my PC. I'm trying to stream dvd's from my PC to my PS3 via TVersity. I have an established connection between the PC and PS3 all I need is content to stream. This is a experiment so I'm not looking to spend any more money than I hsve to. Thanks,

If you want to rip main feature only and compress to MPEG4/AVC reduce filesize, try Handbrake with DVD43.
http://handbrake.fr/
http://www.dvd43.com/
If you want to rip only (not re-compress) and/or include menus and supplemental material, then take a look at DVD Shrink and DVD Rip.

One of the better solutions, and one that is free, and able to handle most of the copy-protection mangling that some studios do to the files on the DVD is at http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.1.2.0 (Mar 22, 2008)
DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab Platinum. It copies entire DVD movie to hard disk, and removes all the protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying. It also comes with full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support (Removes AACS).
Have fun.

I've been getting PM's and e-mails all day telling me to try this, that and the other thing. Thanks for all the help. This one DVDFab HD is by far the easiest one I've tried all day and that's been about 8. I like it so much I'll probably buy the platinum version and break my own rules about buying software The platinum version provides direct PS3 support which is exactly what I'm trying to do.

If you just want to remove the cop y protection you could use AnyDVD. It removes copy protection on the fly. I use it to allow upscaling with my X-card, drag and drop of DVD files to the hard drive, and making 1 to 1 back up copies of DVD movies I want to take with me in the car. I keep my originals safe at home.

you might want to add dvd shrink to your dvd fab if you want to shrink files when the hard drive starts getting full.
it works great w/ dvd fab files.

CloneDVD2 is my favorite in conjunction with AnyDVD HD. Never failed yet to do the job but you need to play with it to understand how it works. Lots of options !
