HEAL this tube!

My newly acquired Sencore CR-70 just saved Chips' (stefuel's) P19LCP07 blue with low emissions and bad contrast, and near-mint phosphor.
The Emission Life Test is showing barely a tickle (about 1/8" movement.)

I've feel as if I've been touched by the noodly appendage of the Flying Spaghetti Monster! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

What kind of Sencore are you refering to? A friend of mine just loaned me a Sencore CP 290 Color Analyzer.... and I haven't even opened the box yet but I'm guessing it's not for testing tubes.

Sencore CR-70. Here's a nice article featuring the newer model, the -7000

The emission life test reduces filament voltage and allows the cathode to cool a little, then runs the emission test. If the emission slowly drops with a colder cathode, its' ability to spit electrons over the long term will be severely limited.
The amount of needle movement provides a very gross estimate of life: If the needle moves a lot, the gun can't emit at the lower temp and the expected life may be less than x months.

All in all, this is pretty gross and amounts to guesswork... BUT if the needle moves little or not at all with a colder cathode, it means that the cathode is healthy enough for years of service.
