So I'm working on a 1042Q with SD-187 tubes. It has a problem where a small spot on the blue tube and a large blob on the green tube appear to have de-focused slightly. Adjusting the tube focus cannot focus the affected areas.

So it kinda sounds like the classic 'fungus' problem, but the coolant appears to be perfectly clean and the problem is not visible at all when the set is off. Perhaps this is just the beginning of a mild case?

Any thoughts?

- David

P.S. - if anyone knows why my test pattern has its right edge clipped, I would be interested to know that as well. It happens regardless of the raster size/location, so I assume it is a problem with the internal test pattern generator.

Bummer. Well, actually, I suppose that is probably an OK problem - at least it is fixable. I might try the CLR approach (http://www.curtpalme.com/CLR_Defungus_Sony_Tubes.shtm), but I'll probably use it as-is for a while before I pull the tubes out.

Any thoughts on the test pattern problem?
