Video Problems: General Info

So let’s assume that you have a picture of some sort, but the color is incorrect, one tube is not lit, or something else funky is going on.

Note to first time Barco owners: The on screen BARCO logo only projects in red and green, the blue tube will remain dark. I’ve had a number of phone calls on this. This is normal.

A lot of problems are actually caused by signal sources or cabling. Before you jump to the conclusion that the projector has a problem, try making sure that the signal source or cabling is not causing the projector to act up. You can do this via a few ways:

If you are running RGB into the projector from an HTPC, scaler, HD box or line doubler, try feeding a video or Svideo signal from a DVD player right into the projector via a short video or Svideo cable. Select input 1 or 2 depending on which input you connected to. See if that will get you a decent image. If so, recheck your line doubler, scaler and cable.

Also, you can usually connect the output of a scaler or line doubler to a regular SVGA computer monitor. That again may confirm problems with your signal source.

Note also that many early Barco models will only accept a negative sync signal from your signal source. Many video cards and some scalers/processors only output positive sync, and an external Extron box such as the 202 will be needed to convert the positive sync to negative sync that the projector will recognize.

Assuming now that your signal source is fine, let’s look at the Barco signal path that it takes in the set.
