High Voltage/Power Supply Issues: Dead Set - Rear Red LED is on

The other scenario with a dead set is that the standby supply is on and thus the rear LED on the back of the set is red, however when the power button is pushed, the set will not turn on, or will turn on partially.

If the set will not come out of the standby mode, most likely the SMPS has a fault on it, and the main power supply section is not turning on. As the power supply in the Barco is pushed the hardest, failure in this module is relatively common. I do a number of mods to the power supply to make it more reliable.

It is however possible for a shorted EHT board to shut down the SMPS. Pull out the EHT board and try to power up the set. If the set turns on, the fans spin but has no picture, then the EHT board is shorted and should be sent in for repairs.

Other boards in the set may also load down the power supply so that it does not turn on. It is possible for almost any board in the set to have a dead short on it. Pull out each board one at a time and try to get the set to turn on. You won’t get a picture, but if you remove the shorted board, the fans should at least spin. Send that board in for repair.
