Does anybody ever hear or seen an IBM 5082 projector? It has three lens RGB and five BNC connectors.
I need to know if it is worth it to even try to connect it to a video source like a DVD player os a VHS.
Please advice. Thanks.

I've never heard of any IBM crt projectors.
Can you post a picture of it? It may be a rebranded machine that many of us know.

A quick search gives that it's made by Sony.
Nothing more yet though. If you post a pic it should be easy to identify.

At least one of them was quite decent iirc.

I'm pretty sure that it's a IBM made unit. I saw one years ago at Boeing in Seattle, they wanted $500 for it. I'm guessing it will do at least 640 x 480, but asked him to post here to confirm that.

i guess i do not know much about these things. the name of the projector is: IBM 5082 Projector. and to me it looks like a barco video projector but this one comes with a special High Gain Curved Screen . This is a large screeen that looks like a hard plastic or fiber glass screen. A quote from the manual: "coated with an aluminum coated surface 62hx82w inches on a metal adjustable stand, that focuses and reflect light producing a brigh image with a high contrast ration".

i remember founding an invoice inside when i got it. The invoice said that the projector was purchased for $28,000 back in the eighties. i still have the manuals, remotes, cables and the cart to move it. it is big.

Hello
I set up a couple of these at IBM offices; everything inside is labelled Sony; they used these to display their 5080 cadcam tubes at 64khz, not sure what range it could scan. The same machines were found at a few Tektronix offices also.

i think Tim hit it right on the nail's head. It was used to display complex graphics like CAD. The manual says that it can be attached to 5085 graphics processor then a 5081 color display 60Hz and a 5081 Color Display. Hey Tim, do you think it is worth to keep it or it is just too old tech?
Thanks to you all for responding. If there is an interest I will post a picture tomorrow. Thanks again.

If it's in good shape and can do 1080i such as a Sony 1031, it's worth keeping as a nice "Start of the addiction" projector

Yes Sonynut, I got the same search result using Google. A name description with no details or picture. But I guess there is no interest on this thing anymore. Nice try Bud.

Can you post a picture of the screen? Sounds like the one I was looking for a while back.

Check the manual for info on scan rates it can handle.
