Can it be done? The cable already breaks out the R,G and B. Is there any way to add the H and V to one of the 3 color wires and make it component? I know you can buy a VGA to RGB cable.

You don't need a cable, you need a transcoder, like Kim's TC1500 or TC2000. Component video is very different from RGB.

So what is this? This is what my flashlight, I mean projector says I needs to connect a component out from a DVD player to its vga input.

http://cgi.ebay.com/3FT-VGA-HD15-RGB-to-3-RCA-COMPONENT-FOR-TV-HDTV-CABLE_W0QQitemZ120238087082QQihZ002QQcategoryZ41999QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It says . . .

This cable is used to connect the component video (Y-Pb-Pr or Y-Cb-Cr) output of a DVD player or HDTV receiver to a projector or plasma TV that accepts 15 pin component video input.

Your digital likely has Y Cb Cr on the R B G lines of a normal RGB-VGA cable, I had an NEC MT1050 which was like that, the same cable/VGA input could be used for either component or RGB, it was just very convenient.

Exactly.

Some devices can output (or input) component or RGB over a VGA connector. You set within the device whether the VGA connector is doing RGB or component.

This cable is just breaks out the VGA connector to 3 RCA connectors. It does not convert RGB to component or vice versa. You need a $150+ box to do that properly. (Like the RTC2200 or TC1500).

My question still stands though. Does anyone know if the VGA to Component cable use the same pins and pairs as the VGA to RGBHV breakout cable?

Yes. Usually. Check the manual for your projector, it should tell you for sure there. Or just try it, it won't hurt anything.

There's no such thing as a "VGA to component" cable.

That is a VGA to RGsB cable.

Your flashlight is doing some very, very non-standard if it uses a HD-15 for a component input.

Most of the projectors with component over DB15HD use the same pinout as the R-G-B pins on the VGA->RGBHV cables. You don't need to do anything with the H or V leads. Just adapts the R, G, and B to RCA (or whatever your component source uses) and connect thusly:

Red: Pr
Green: Y
Blue: Pb

I made a cable by hand for my Epson "flashlight" and it worked great.
