J, why is the red tube out? Is that the one that is leaking. If so, come over and grab the red I have on the shelf and pop it in. All you need to do is swap over your magnetics and your good to go.

I think Tim hit on the root cause of the HV problem.. Red is definately unplugged.
Red is, also, the highest volume "weeper" so I'll probably take you up on your offer. Hasta manana!

I'll drop it off tomorrow AM after Bobby's swimming lesson if you want.

Please... If you're already out let me know and I'll swing by when you are in.

I just got home and am eating breakfast. I's 10:30, I'll be over at 11:00 unless you insist on picking it up.

Nah... come on over. I'll have the R&G flipped and that's the last test I can do without having another tube.

Chip seems to think that the red might be too strong rather than the green being too weak, but I'm still siding on the green as the brightness of the menus etc fell off when I did that ill-fated reset.

Dumb Question O' The Day... Since this thing has a P43 green, is there some super-secret service menu that I must re-educate the PJ in the Green drive (outside the standard color temperature?)

No secret P43 tube menu. But some tubes use different values than the normal tubes . Like LUG's have a lower G2 value setting than normal.

This is friggin retarded. I saw the projector running just prior to the re-set and it had normal green emission, good color balance with no obvious red push. Now green is way low and the red looks to be over driven. How do you go from a good tube to a bad tube with nothing more than a hard re-set? This is the ultimate Riply's believe it or not...

Bump bump bump
tap tap tap

My Sencore thread resulted in the recommendation that I try to dislodge potential contamination by standing the tube on end and tapping... This is did, on the plastic outer shield and the focus coil, to no avail. I intend to be a little more aggressive, BUT I don't want to break a tube neck.
I found a Sencore CR-70 for an attractive price, so I hope to test the tube "for real" within the next week.

Rejuvenating this thread if anybody is still following it.

A Sencore CR-70 tells me the tube is good. All that's left is the anode HV lead... I'm debating on swapping it with another just for practice.

Despite the fact that the tube tested in the "good" range I decided to sacrifice a little cathode and did 2/3s of an auto-rejuvenation with the CR70. The tube now tests about 7/8 up the "good" side of the scale and MY WHITES ARE WHITE AGAIN!!!

I'm going to go slow and re-test tomorrow, then put the G and R back where they belong (they are currently switched) and do a white balance. If all is well after some endurance testing, it'll be time to order a red C element, three bellows, and start putting it back together.

Chip: Warm up the minolta... I want to do a real white balance before and after endurance testing to see if it drifts. Perhaps Sunday if your wing and kid timing work out?

--Edit: I'm going to let the other two threads die and stick with this one until I decide that my 9501LC is stable.

Glad you got it working right to this point. Lets hope the calibration takes it to the next level and then the endurance testing. I still have my retro in the garage and havnt checked it out other than turning it on and letting run for about an hour.

Don't forget, amid all this talk of green tubes and emission, that I DID find the bellows on all three tubes spongy and weeping. Check them carefully, as the retro-mounted angle will pretty much guarantee that glycol will find the main-, midplane- and all the cards in the cardcage.

Well. 10 hours of endurance so far, so good.
Five hours in we set up Chips' minolta colorimeter, and brought the red down a little for an x of exactly 313. Five hours of runtime later its' still dead-balls on 313.
I've shut it down for the night and will re-visit it tomorrow, but at this point I think I'm calling VDC for the bellows and red C element!

How many times do I have to tell you? Stop saying "dead balls" around a 52 year old guy. Laughing
