So it's in-store only, I assume? The Sony card only works for a purchase of $299 or more, but the Walmart PS3 should qualify.

But June 1-7 -- doubt they'd get you the card in time for that?

The flyer doesn't say in store only but there is a monsterous thread at slick deals or fat wallet about it.

I don't have time to sift through it...maybe on June 1 I will go back to see if it is only online...if it is online then you can use the number that Sony gives you right away to make the purchase.

I am getting pretty giddy here for no reason I am sure.

Ooo...Walmart is advertising a $100 BR gift card with purchase of a 40 GB PS3 at $400.

Limited to only BR purchases...not sure if it is only at WM or not...need to check further.
What, no link?

Here is a 43 page thread about the deal at slick deals.net...don't ask any questions in the thread though, as it is a bunch of teenagers that will jump all over you...come to think of it...do, it might be funny.

Damn, damn, damn, damn! It was available online but all are sold out now. Can't get the $100 rebate from Sony now. Deal is less sweet. I will see if they become back available online but I don't think Sony can get me my card by June 6th!

I thought for just a second that I might get a $200 PS3.

Greg, even though they're sold out online, they could be back. You could also pick one up in-store. It looks like you get the Sony card if you buy in-store, and according to the photo (which may or may not be accurate), they substitute a Walmart.com online gift card if you buy online.

Here's the online link:

I'm attaching screen grab from the flyer for the in-store deal. There's still hope...

Two separate things here...I think it is a BR branded Walmart gift card good for more than just BR's, and a $100 rebate off your first purchase with a Sony Card. I haven't applied for the Sony Card yet, but when you apply online, they give you a card number that you can use for online purchases.

If WM has them available online I will quickly sign up at Sony and purchase using the Sony card and then get $100 rebate + $100 GC from WM.

Need to be vigilent for the WM online stock.

I notice the online $100 gift card is good ONLY for online purchases. Might matter to you, might not...

Greg, I know you were talking about two different things. I didn't reference your credit card rebate at all.

The two different things I was talking about were what appeared to be the two different rebate cards you got depending on whether you bought online or in-store. Online, it looks to me (according to the picture) like you get a Walmart ONLINE gift card - meaning, as Gary points out, that you can only use the gift card on Walmart online purchases. Not sure if that really matters one way or the other. If you buy in-store, then it looks like you get the "Blu-ray" gift card. I have no idea whether that card is restricted in any way to Blu-ray purchases, or if it's simply one of the plethora of "themed" gift cards that Walmart and every other retail store sells. I assume Walmart is probably paying the tab for the cards themselves and Sony is probably paying for the actual value of the card (which is only $100 at full retail). I'm just guessing, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the online stock doesn't return until after the promo ends. I think you'd have better luck at this point calling around to a few stores in your area - assuming your credit card makes it on time.

Heh heh. I hope you find one, though. I LOVE my PS3. Besides the G70, I think it's the coolest piece of gear I have in my theater. The only thing that sucks about it is that you need to get a newer HDMI-based receiver to do the super-sweet audio. If you could buy one at $200 or even $300, then all the better.

OMG. I almost forgot. I bought my first PS3 game: Singstar. It's basically karaoke. It's like Guitar Hero, but you sing instead of pushing buttons. For $60, it comes with the game, two mics, and a USB box which I assume is both a preamp for the mics and an A/D audio interface. Anyway, it's hilarious. It actually analyzes pitch to see if you sing the right note, and on/off to see if you sing when you're supposed to. The base game only comes with 36 songs (decent variety of genre), but there are theme packs that already exist for the PS2, and will be coming out I'm sure for the PS3 - rock, pop, 80's, 90's, metal, etc. They're $20-25 apiece.

I can't wait until the first time we have some liquored-up friends or family at the house.

I stopped by the local Wally World to check out the deal. They have plenty in stock. And, according to the guy in the electronics area, the $100 gift card is just a vanilla Walmart gift card. No restrictions or ties to Blu Ray. So assuming you can spend another $100 at Walmart, you really are getting the PS3 for $299.

It may be time for me to make the jump...

I am assuming they have plenty in stock at local wally worlds and Evil Sony tipped them off to the double dipping $100 rebate through sonystyle cards and made them make them unavailable during this promotion.

Either way...better to get $100 at Wally world then to have to sign up for a new Credit Card from Evil Sony! lol

My local Wally World has a very decent selection of Blu-ray disks, prices are much better then Best Buy or Circuit City, not quite as good as Amazon. They have decent looking Sony LCD panel connected directly to a BD player running a demo loop. They also have 3 or 4 BD players on display too plus a PS3.

IMO this kind of exposer is what BD needs to become main stream.

? I still see it here ...

I'm gonna pick one up locally. Can't use the Sonystyle card that way, but the gift card isn't limited to online purchases. I can always use the Sonystyle card on something else and tell my wife it applied to the PS3. Smile

Yeah...disappointed that it only applies to sonystyle purchases and can't be used anywhere.

Oh well...stopping by walmart on the way home.

Can't decide if I will bite or not...more to follow!

Couldn't pull the trigger as I knew I had another amp sitting at my front door.

Got my rack all reorganized. Have been dropping the hint on this deal for father's day for a few days so I think I am in like flint, but might hold out until the last day.

I got her a jogging stroller and a set of golf clubs, so I think I am entitled.

Rack looks much nicer...and I left a little spot in there for a BR player in the future...

You know, I completely missed that. So it *WASN'T* possible to combine the $100 Sony card deal with the Walmart sale.

Good thing, since I just picked up a PS3 at Walmart last night. Very Happy
