I've got a BG808 that, after being fully powered up for a while (usually a couple hours minimum), seems to basically lock up and reboot, usually repeatedly once it starts. Here's what I know about the chain of events:

1) Controls stop responding and processor cycles light stops flashing (image still ok)
2) About 5 seconds later, the image goes black
3) Very shortly thereafter, the unit audibly powers down
4) After a few seconds, the unit powers back up on it's own
5) Sometimes, it comes back normally, sometimes it comes up with a seemingly random pattern of white dots and horizontal lines on a black background, in which case it will have to be (soft) powered off and back on to restore proper operation.

Once it starts happening, it keeps happening repeatedly with anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 minutes between resets. RWI is v5.06, CTRL is G808 v6.20. I can't recall the exact LED pattern when it fails, but I do know the I2C fault indicator isn't lit. The control board also has a chip labeled "INT 100" which was clearly soldered by hand, and badly at that. Nothing on the control board seems to run hot, and warming the board modestly with the pj cold didn't reproduce the problem, nor did various tapping on the board.

Anyone out there seen this before and figured it out? Any specific spots worth checking besides the control board? I don't have a scope on hand but do have a DMM. Thanks!

Unplug the wired keypad, rear remote and the front IR (in the convergence tray) one at a time. If the keypad has a sticking key or either IR is picking up crap or is oscillating internally, they can all do that. It can also be the controller board.

I have spares of everything.

Thanks Curt! I had that suspicion myself, and had covered the front IR for exactly that reason. When that seemed to stop doing the trick, I posted here. I'll do just that, and be sure to get any parts I need from you. Very Happy
