|
|
A loud pop (think light bulb exploding) just came from my Barco Graphics 808s and then the picture disappeared. I immedeately turned it off and pulled out the power cord. Since it didn't start to smell funny I plugged it back in after a minute and the picture returned.
I turned it off again after a couple of minutes, not sure of what to make of it. So I went here, looking for some answers to my questions:
What could be the cause of this loud pop?
How do I repair/fix it so that it doesnt happen again?
Is it safe to keep using the projector as long as it emits a picture, despite the loud pop it just made? (Meaning, will I break it beyond repair if I keep on using it as it is?)
A little background info that might or might not be helpful: The projector is not incredibly old, it was made in 1997. I've owned it for about 1,5 years. The timer says almost 5600 hours, 1500 by me. At the time of the loud pop, it had been running for about an hour. I always turn it completely off with the power button. I haven't had any problems with it until now.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Tube front plate crack makes similar sound, but it's probably not that since picture game back.

Your HV went into shutdown mode.. that's a good thing. It saved the set for destructing.
It could be an internal tube arc, that happens from time to time and is nothing to worry about.
It could also be a leaky HV lead as stated above. If so, it will happen again. THe trick is to leave the covers off the set so you can see this happen, and replace the HV lead(s) responsible. Each time you get an external arc like that, you risk killing the H or V board or more.

Thanks for your replies. I'll try running it with the front most latch open for a while and see if it returns. How much does a new HV lead cost?
I found instructions here http://www.curtpalme.com/HV_Lead_Removal.shtm and I'm guessing that the other end of the lead that's not in the pictures just unplugs?
Btw, when the picture disappeared the fans kept on running. Not sure if that will change the diagnosis but I forgot to mention it earlier.
