Some people are finding these highend Sony 24" widescreen monitors and realizing how amazing CRT is. Deep blacks, great color, no ghosting/input lag, no pixels/SDE.
Probably weighs a tonne and has a deep cabinet but I bet the image is stunning. The G90 of monitors?

A lot of the Australian boys had a powerbuy of these Fw900 monitors some years back, and only paid a few hundred dollars.

I'm waiting for my chance to pick up one of the 24" models. Right now I'm using the 21" little brother and have the urge to upgrade.
Too bad I need the cash is so many other places right now.

My current Viewsonic Graphics Series completely blows away any flat-panel I have in my home. But even with that said, its nothing like what I had preior to it which was a Professional Series from Viewsonic and that thing had much lower black levels. Unfortunately, this thing just cannot be adjusted to reduce the baseline.
I think I would still consider a CRT PC monitor, but I think I would strive to find a local vendor where refurbished good units are available.

Maybe..... But I read a LOT of documents, and that pixel perfect sharpness is the reason "I" went to a flat panel. Although it was a $1600 NEC. RAZOR sharp, amazing uniformity, color, etc. Just not as black. The thing is, for text, the panel is just less fatigueing.
For everything else, there's CRT.
Although.... you CAN overdo a good thing. I used a 29" Barco Mega Calibrator for a while. Yeah, it was AWESOME for the first 10 minutes in sheer massive size. But it took up my ENTIRE desk, and I had to put the keyboard on my lap to type. The thing was just plain HUGE!!
But Games sure looked good on it. It's drawback again was fine text. My eyes seem to need perfectly sharp text or I get severe strain. When I look at anything that's even slightly fuzzy, my eyes keep trying to focus better and the rest is history.
So, alas..... I HAD to go to a GOOD flat panel.
Marc

I mostly use a macbook but every now and then I boot the old PC in the basement for something and the 21 Inch Trinitron monitor that I picked up when my local elementary school dis-carded it just stuns me every time. Things look... real. LCD just doesn't quite ever look like it should.

I run a dual monitor setup out of an NVidia card. Right now it's a 19" and 17" CRT setup. I am in the market for either two matching 22" flat panels, or two 21" CRTs ....

I've got two of the Sony G520P's Awesum monitors but one needs the magnet's aligned. Maybe I'll takle that some time.
I'm still looking for a pair of 24" Sony monitors too.
I've had a few flat screens attached to lap tops mostly they never ever come close. I had a good look a couple of years back when my father needed a monitor. Nothing could touch the CRT quality. He of course was looking at the case.
Hey Marc, was that 29" Barco Mega Calibrator the one they use in medical imaging, or one of the one's they use for film production?

I would say yes and no. I have a Sony FW900. For games and movies, the Sony is *probably* better. But for everything else, I would rather have a nice LCD panel. The recent generations of wide screen panels are actually quite good, and sharper than this monitor. Plus they are much smaller, lighter, and have virtually no warmup time.
Also, with the trinitron you have to deal with the aperture grill lines (there are 2-3 on the 24" Sonys). But then you always risk dead pixels with an lcd anyway.

Those apature lines use to piss me off then I got use to them.
The sharpness you see is that artificial digital kind. Never impressed me ( surprise ). I'll agree you can get a bigger picture with digital ( a fiend of mine has a 32" Olivia on his desk ) but it still lack's that CRT depth and feel.
Also the size is not an issue with me. If it's 3 feet deep then so be it.

I have the Sony F520.
Its the best CRT Sony ever made,21" with .22 Dot Pitch.
Got it from a guy in Ontario through Ebay for $300.00.
I bought 2 G520P's from this guy here 4 years ago if you need 2 more units.

CRTs can handle a wide range of resolutions and refresh rates and remain sharp. Try an LCD at anything other than its optimal resolution and refresh rate and I guarantee you say "YUK".

That's funny. I bought my first G520P from Doug at Canada monitors. Great guy to deal with but he's mostly moved on to LCD and referbed Dell systems. He does have some 22" NEC but they are blurry as compared to the Sony's.

I have a Sun GDM 5510. It is a totally flat 21" Trinitron CRT. It is razor sharp corner to corner and I have yet to see anything that I would prefer. My friend and I were at Government Liquidations, picking up something and we noticed dozens of monitors on pallets outside of the warehouse. One man was stacking the monitors into a 40 foot container, probably headed for Asia. It was a 90 degree day and it must have been 110 degrees inside that container. The poor guy was sweating bullets. We asked him if he would sell us a monitor. He said "Take whatever you want so I don't have to load them into this sweatbox". We brought the van around and loaded up 4 of these Sun monitors that were together on a pallet. The guy said " Is that all you're going to take?" My friend and I were able to come up with $50 between us and gave it to the guy. I hope he was able to buy some cold beer when he was finished.

Good score. I just googled that model. Looks like a Sony I saw. Just can't remember which one.

I do most of my posting lying on the couch on a notebook pc. A CRT is way too heavy for my lap....so I have given in to an LCD for that application.
