Well are you still pissed about being forced to choose VHS over Beta? How else would a format war sort itself out? At some point, one format starts becoming the standard and the other format starts losing support from the industry and *consumers*. This is what we're seeing now. Maybe it's not turning out how you had hoped, but I don't see it a some assault upon the rights of consumers. There's no reason companies shouldn't dedicate their resources to the dominant, and future standard, format. It's just good business.

That's easy, you're drinking them too slowly.

LMFAO. So THAT's what I've been doing wrong! As draganm does, I drink only distilled drinks. In my case it's the aversion therapy involved with beer.

JustGreg, it sounds like you have an allergy to one of the ingredients.
I don't hold much weight on vega testing but that may be one approach to consider.

For Video, HDMI builds on the basically 8-bit RGB capabilities of DVI, it also specs for 8, 10, and 12-bit digital component video (YCbCr) transmission. ... HDMI 1.3 also adds support for 'deep colour' which greatly extends the number of colours that can be transmitted in the signal. Support for 'deep colour' in source content today is however non-existent but Blu-ray and HD-DVD are rumoured to be adding 'deep colour' support in the future. |

In your snippet, this seems to be the only video difference between DVI and HDMI. Correct? If so, then playing SD DVDs (which only use MPEG-2 8-bit video, I believe) over DVI should be identical to playing it over HDMI?

Mold? If you're drinking beer with mold in it, the problem's not the beer!
Kal | haha All Beer has active yeast in it or yeast by products. Yeast is just a polite name for mold. My fave unfiltered Micro brews were the worst. Try it, next time you open a Beer, take a whiff and you will smell the mold. I have same symptoms as the crab-man, severe fatigue that lasts for days after drinking Beer. It sucks but that's the hand I was dealt and thank goodness for distilled Spirits.

I thought DVI was essentially HDMI stripped of its HDCP and digital audio? I.e. just the digital video signal, same as what's running in the HDMI cable? | I will bow to other authorities on thi but I believ HDMI 1.3 has a substantial advantage in color tracking and other parameters directly linked to pic performance. Also, I think the whole Black crush issue on the original Moome DVI card was due to something inherent in the DVI signal.

Sony will have relatively unimpeded and unregulated control of that format. (There will be the DVD Forum..still chaired by Toshiba, and government agencies) You said it yourself, "99.9 are not going to go without." GOTCHYA!
It's all going to be a moot point shortly anyway as delivered digital content and storage matures; (REAL uncompressed HD, not HD-Lite) Not even Sony will be able to wheel-N-deal and weasel their way around that.
If my facts are incorrect I have no problem being corrected, as I want to understand this subject too. Name calling is offensive, childish, and counter productive.

I seem to recall a post I made some time ago how Blu-ray is Sony's broadcast format (in a caddy for those) and how Sony has too much riding on this NOT to ram it down the consumers throats.
Looks like I was right. It didn't matter in the end what format the consumer chose. In the end the other choice was simply taken away.
Actually a very clever move on Sony's part. Now let's all enjoy the consequences.

| ecrabb wrote: | | Hell, I bet if I took what I spent on the HD DVD player and movies, and divided it by all the movies we've watched and the number of people we've had watch with us, it would probably still be less than what we'd spent on movie tickets at the theater - and for that we'd have absolutely nothing to show for it. |
I'm $700 invested in HD DVD -- HD-A1 bought used in mid 2006 for around $300, HD-A2 bought new in late 2007 for $100, and $300 for 12 titles. I have watched 8 movies with 20 people. So that's $35 a showing per person. Ouch. Then lets consider that I bought a 1292Q and Lumagen VisionHDP about a year ago. I'm $1700 invested in that equipment. That makes $2400 for that particular setup. That's $120 a showing per person! Wow, now I'm depressed. I guess the consolation is that I must have somewhat of a life not spending too much time watching movies. Of course, I just realized I've probably seen more movies in the theater than on my home theater setup! Maybe I'm pacing myself. I have 10 HD DVDs I've not watched yet so I could probably push the figure from $35 a person to $14 a person watching all of those.
The D50 in the basement setup got some use last weekend though -- Resistance: Fall of Man on the PS3 and Fuzion Frenzy 2 on the Xbox 360. Now that was fun!

"I always lie...I never tell the truth"
With your best Monte Python English accent
Now, I've noticed a tendency for this forum to get rather silly. Now I do my best to keep things moving along, but I'm not having things getting silly. Those two last thread I posted in got very silly indeed, and that last one about the weather was even sillier. Now, nobody likes a good laugh more than I do...except perhaps my wife and some of her friends...oh yes and Captain Johnston. Come to think of it most people likes a good laugh more than I do. But that's beside the point. Now, let's have a good clean healthy Sony blasting post.
