I have recently bought a faulty ECP 4100 which I had initially planned to use as spares for my existing ECP 4100. However, I discovered that it has a set of pristine 07MS tubes whereas my current projector has the older, dimmer SD-187 tubes, so now I'm thinking that I'd quite like to get it working and use it as my main PJ.
When I switch on the new ECP and display the grid pattern, the tubes display a picture for about 1/4 of a second and then switch off. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds or so, as if something is getting overloaded and shutting down.
Most of the time, all three tubes do this but some of the time the red tube doesn't come on at all.
I have tried switching off each of the tubes in turn but to no effect. All the power lights are lit and none of the error lights are on, although the READY light does briefly go off around the same time as the tubes.
Any suggestions on how I can diagnose this fault? Alternatively, would it be easier just to take the tubes out and stick them in my working ECP?
Cheers,
James.

Hello
A tube could be the problem. Disconnect one high voltage lead at a time and see if you can isolate one tube (or neckboard) as the problem. Put a few inches of bubblewrap under the splitter to isolate it from ground.

Nope, the problem still happens with each HV lead disconnected in turn.
