Have any of you had the chance to see these new Pioneer "kuro: plasmas?
Their black level is supposed to put them in a league very close to crt?

The CRT solution to CIH, though not a cheap one, is blending.

But the "real" question is...are those blacks actually as dark as it's being reported???
I know pioneer has been able decrease the raise and decay times of the panel voltage, thereby lowering a excitation voltage of the panel...this is creating those darker blacks.
But I haven't seen one yet!

Kenny,
I would have to see it in a totally blacked out room and check the settings. Phosphor has persistence like crt's but comparing to the others they were the best ones that I have looked at. Doug

As far as Plasmas go, even in the early days I preferred Panasonic and Pioneer (in that order) hands down. Good sets.

This just in:
LONDON -- Nearly half of British men surveyed would give up sex for six months in return for a 50-inch plasma TV, a survey -- perhaps unsurprisingly carried out for a firm selling televisions -- said Friday.
Electrical retailer Comet surveyed 2,000 Britons, asking them what they would give up for a large television, one of the latest consumer "must-haves."
The firm found 47 per cent of men would give up sex for half a year, compared to just over a third of women.
Now, considering a CRT is bigger and gives a better picture than a lowly plasma, how long would you go without sex to keep your CRT?

Isn't it that you automatically go without sex when having a crt due to low WAF?

Comparing a Plasma to a CRT PJ.
The image from a CRT PJ on a screen as small as a plasma's would be "Incredible". A G90 projecting onto a 60" screen (if there are lenses made for a screen that small) would be "over the top" in sharpness and brightness 8)

I am a technology buff. I have been around computer technology since the very early 1980s. I have learned that not all technolgy changes represent an imoprovement and some new technolgies don't servive. Plasma and TFT screens have been around for many years in the computer world. In Fact gas Plasma screens appeared on 286 laptops in the late 1980s and while they were slim contrast was terrible and they were very heavy on power. On small screens both technologies work very well but my eys tell me that on large screens plasma and TFT have motion blur and skin tone problems that really take the enjoyment away for me.

Wern't SED panels supposed to be here by now?
last time I remember reading about them they were claiming 100,000:1 contrast ratios, less than 1ms response and were basically a flat CRT with individual emitters for each element?
Something has to replace my XG, surely!

CIA= constant image area? i'm not sure what that is, some kind of screen with masking on 4 sides? What we REALLY need is a super affordable blender. The tVone at $7K managed is a huge leap over the $13K Diventix but I would like to see that number cut in half again.

Haha, I like that . I have seen both Clay face ,Oil face, and rigamortis face in screen shots posted by digital PJ owners. I don't howver rmeber seeing that during my short 30 minute RS1 demo.

It would be nice to have any kind of projector: CRT, DLP, LCD...
My first preference is to replace my dud Vidikron with a nice, reconditioned CRT from Curt Palme.
Now if he could only get himself off these ##!! chat forums and focus on my ##!! order. Sigh.
