OK, battling with this new P19LUGP43 tube that I just got. Brand new Panasonic tube, not a rebuild.
Emission is good, too good in fact, G2 is at about 49. (other new tubes in the past have been at say 55-60 or so, never under 50 though). This is in a Marquee 9500 Ultra, I modded the neck board as I've done before with LUG tubes.
The damn tube won't focus properly. Astig is disconnected, in fact, the old text burned tube in this set worked fine. 6 pole astig magnets installed. I can get round dots, but the dots flare like crazy on all sides, and get halos around all sides. Glycol is new and clean,. C element is perfect.
if I overfocus, the tube defocuses properly. I just can't get a sharp dot without haloing.flaring all around.
Before I yank the newly siliconed tube outta the housing, I want to make sure that I've covered all bases.

did you do the mod to the neck card with the resistor? or the wire jumpe? I am doing the wire jumper between pin 5 and 7 the reading that i have done says that that gives the best and sharpest focus. and that the drives should be around mid to low 40. I will let you know how mine are when i fire up hopefully tonight.

Curt, if you did all the necessary mods, let the tube run a while and see if the electron gun "settles".
Sometimes a new tube needs a bit to burn off odd things and settle down. If nothing else works, the tube is probably flawed.
Does it completely cut off?
Marc

Well I cut the tube out of the LC housing and am siliconing in the second tube. At low contrast the tube is fine, but I've had lots of P43 tubes in here before without focus issues, including LUGs.
Interesting, despite a 3 day curing period, the silicone in the middle of the Lc housing was as viscous as when it came out of the tube. I've got a heater on the housing to speed things up a bit, but taking this tube out took under 10 minutes.

I run my G2 at around 44 for all three of my LUGs in my Marquee 9500 Ultra. No focus issues here.

Well the used tube in the Ampro is running fine. G2 is higher (it's a used tube) but focus is the same as is expected on standard JLE tubes. Doug, I don't think the Marquee uses any kind of AKB at all.

New 'LUGs in new Marquees always have a lower G-2 setting than new 'LCPs in new Marquees. Don't know much about the older units. There is no automatic cut-off or G-2 circuit in the Marquee.
