Signal "PJ_POWER" has no driving source.

Hi guys, sorry for my lapse- flu just overtook me and then work piled up and now only half back to going so will try to give I hope some half good advise. Wink

For now we will work on just the power button, after that works we can expand to the other functions.

When I last heard from Tom he was NOT getting any IR from the strip (flasher) when he hit PJ_Power, plus from the error I quoted above that would make sense. He used his Camera to watch the flasher which was a very good idea!!!

So, what happed was he did get PJ_Power typed into the IR Symbol on the right but DID NOT get "Button21" changed to "PJ_Power" on the Touchpanel Symbol on the right.

Refer back to the post "Wiring up our first IR Symbol!" and Step 2

We are going to REPLACE the lines marked "Button??" with the actual short function name, then use that same short function name on the IR symbol. In this case power is "button21" and should be replaced with "PJ_Power".

One last thing to do before downloading, "right click" on the left touchpanel symbol and choose "set watch on all signals in symbol"

I think that will make it go, save it and download and give that a try. Also another note, if Simpl says it downloaded the program then it did, the process is 2-way confirmed and belive me if it does not work it will tell you. Do be sure to go on and say "Yes" to "Make program Permeant" or if you loose power it will revert to the old program.

If you still have trouble after making the above changes/checks then we need to open "test manager", follow the same steps in post "Finding the pre-programmed "Join" numbers using Test Manager Part 1". After you get test manager open and running you should see "PJ_Power" pop up every time you hit the projector power button, if not go back to the left symbol and recheck "press21" where you should have put "PJ_Power".

If you DO see PJ_Power in test manager and you confirm you are now out putting IR on that button then we can work on IR codes but I think they are ok at this point.

Goodluck!
Jeff

Thanks Chip. I redid the cable although it looked right. Re-transferred the program and now get an IR visual from the STIRP IR emitter for each programmed button but no response from the Barco. Wonder if this could be a projector IR address issue although I thought it was set to 0 which should respond to all addresses. Will check that out...

Update,
Projector is set for address 0. Looks like the program took but still no response to the Crestron IR emitter which is sending visual IR signals ? Confused

Jeff I will do some more checking but at this point the program seems to be correct but perhaps the Crestron data base may be incorrect for the Barcodata 808 as Chip pointed out. You probably missed this post. I'm now getting visual confirmation of the IR signals on all the programmed buttons but no reaction from the projector ? I also sent to you the Barco 1208s remote codes from Remote central. Can you tell if they differ from the Crestron 8XX series codes as they should be the same. The projector is set for address 0 and should respond to all Barco remotes. The supplied remote works fine.

Yo Jeff, How's the flu doing? I'll bet you're in better shape than me. I just tore a rotator cuff at work. Arm in a sling and on med's Laughing
I don't know how far you've gotten in your C self training. One thing I've not figured out is how to retrieve info from a RS-232 device and view it on the touch screen. I know it involves using the serial gatherer but I'm un-clear on what to do with it and what type of window to place that gathered info in. My next project requires me to construct a user module to interact with a APC Smart UPS. I have the protocol. It allows monitoring of internal temp, battery condition and many other status points to be viewed on screen. Crestron does have a module on the site but I don't have access. My goal is to use that gathered information to trigger a normal (safe) shut-down of my HT equipment rack and projector.

Tom, Don't worry. I'll get your little project done. The box got here yesterday. I can run a drill-press with one hand tied behind my back. Wink

Yes, that is something on my list of to-do's I have about 7kw of apc backup and intend to connect a remote ST-COM to them and set up monitoring via the crestron too. I have worked with serial com data for several of my control items and yes, "Gather" is an import symbol which took me a while to find. Without it strings get broken up into smaller strings and no rhyme or Reason on where the controller makes the breaks. I am not real happy with the string symbols in simpl, they are very limited on what they can do. It looks like I might have to build some simpl+ modules to really be able to handle strings effectively. The apc would be a good start since their protocol is so simple. As far as sending data to touchpanels, I have my own web-based system so I have not tried to do that yet but do have a VT-3500 here to play with, I may see if I can figure it out so I can be more helpful in the future.

Not quite back to 100% but at least back to work.

I sent you some sample code, hope that gets you started!

Hi Jeff, glad to see some one here who can assist us would-be crestron users. I trying to set up a system too. Would be great to get rid of the 6 remotes! My equipment consist of: MP2 processor, STX1550C, STRFGWX, CNAMPX-2X60,CNTBLOCK, C2N-DB12B, and a CNLIR learner. I also have Crestron programming tools ver 2.5 CD. The equipment to control consists of: Barco 1208/2, Denon AVR5700, TIVO series3 DVR, DVDO HD+, Toshiba HD-A3, HTPC, and a Lutron Maestro IR lighting.

First question would be what do you think of the SystemBuilder and MP2 SystemBuilder programs?

Second question is I am having problems downloading the latest systembuilder_templates_3.3.7.exe update. I keep getting a reset message before the download is complete. Have you experienced this?

Hi, Welcome to the forum!!!

You have quite a nice system, that is enough equipment to take care of just about anything Smile Looks like the Lutron module is the only thing you are missing.

I have not herd real good things about system builder and have not personally tried it. I can also tell you that the crestron update server is SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!!! Because of the speed problem it has timed out on me too. You have to just keep trying until it finally gets the whole file. Perhaps try the wee hours of the morning as less users should be online.

Let me know what your computer skill set is and I should be able to help. The previous posts we have been laying out a basic program in step by step format which you can follow with your system too.

I need to post our next step now.

Again Thankx for dropping in!

Posted: Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:09 am    Post subject: New Barco IR file

Ok, I checked the IR file in the Crestron database for the Barco 800 Projector and it is defiantly different then the IR on Remote central

http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/codes/barco/barco_800_series_address_0/

In fact the database IR has NO CARRIER where the other 800 codes show it on 38khz so big difference. I also looked at several Barco 700 IR codes and they did have NO CARRIER so it looks like the database 800 codes are in fact for the 700

Ok, I took the Pronto CCF codes from RC and plugged them in a new Crestron.Ir file using DEAL and have attached the resulting file for Tom.

Step 1. To use the file, refer back to the earlier post "Add IR Codes Not in the Database" and follow the steps I set forth there.

Step 2. After you place the new Barco IR file, find the old one in the tree, right click on it and "delete"

Step 3. Now Refer to the post "Wiring up our first IR Symbol!" and Continue at Step 4 and re-wire the new Barco 800 Ir Symbol.

Step 4. Download and TEST!

Hopefully this will get you going, it will be time to move onto your DVD player(s) soon!

I just got back from the ortopedic surgeon's office. He thinks I don't have a tear but thinks it may be rotator cuff tendonitis. I'm out of work for a week and in therapy with a return visit and examination in a week. At that time , he may schedule me for a MRI or perhaps just a cortisone shot. He can't do anything with it right now as the whole area is inflammed. Wanna take bet's that I'll be going for a MRI?

Try disabling your virus scanner. I've had problems downloading stuff in the past because the virus scanner thinks it sees something bad inthe file.

FWIW, Crestron and APC announced a 1.2KVA UPS named CEN-UPS1250. There's an ethernet module in device database 5.13(?) for 2-series processors. I'm betting it works with more than just the official UPS if you have an APC network mgt card. I have the UPS's and cards, but only a X gen processor.

Sorry, I didn't get a PM. I was given a hacked version of the protocol on another forum. What I have to do is sit down here and study up on how to display gathered strings of info from the device on the touch screen. I do have a sample program that a friend sent me for a different reason but has a device that works the same way as what I want to do.
Friday I will open up his program and see if I can understand what he's done with it. It's been a while but I think there's a way to follow the circuit from button press to end result like putting a trace on the signal. I get confused sometimes looking at other peoples work. It's that pig-headed yankee syndrome in me that thinks there's only one way to do things, MY WAY. Laughing

Thanks Jeff, I got it that time. Have you looked at that sample program/touch panel? There is a border labled statistics. There are 9 labled stats with open borders next to each one with a green number (not a join) in them. I can't figure out how the program places the correct statistic (polled text) within it's respective border without having a join number associated with it aka having no destination? Unless those green numbers have some meaning hardwired within the module it's self?

The green numbers are "Serial Joins" If you "hover" over the green number it pop's up and gives you that data. If your not seeing the mouse-over info, right click on the green number and in the menu is "mouse-over info", make sure it is checked. The green number is the actual serial join. I was not able to select the serial join, each time I click on the area it brings up the "border propertys", there is a trick to select objects within objects I don't know yet.

Which panel do you have? This was made for a new panels like the 4500, 6000, etc. If you have an older one then you may have to change the joins to analog, both in the pro-e and in the simpl. This should still be a good start from the looks of it.

Good luck!

I just looked at the simpl file and all the meat is in a module "APC Smart UPS.umc", it will be a piece of cake to drop it in your current program and should save you bo-koos of time.

After looking at how the module was built I see now what they do to get around the lack of math functions in serial symbols, everything is turned to analog first, the math is done by lookups and then the result is turned back to serial. Very crude way of doing it but it works.

I think I will try to drop it in my install over this weekend since it looks so straight forward. Will let you know how it goes.

Jmayes,

Hello all .. let me introduce myself.. and sorry but due to crestron and my career I'm going to go by my username and not my real name.. ( sorry .. but helping isn't worth a career change if you know what I mean ) ...

It's MRBUD ..

I've been in the industry for well over 20 years now in one form or another.. I work as an Installer/Programmer for a local High End A/V Shop. I am currently a Crestron Programmer Level 1.. I would say that I'm fairly new to the Crestron programming but..I do understand it.. So that said.. I'll jump in when I feel appropriate or when JMayes ask's .. If you should have any questions.. feel free to ask.. I may or may not know the answer. but ... I'll give it a shot..
