I've been trying to capture screen shots and the picture never seem to due justice to the real image.

I have a digital SLR (300D/Rebel) with a automatic mode, a bunch of preset modes and full manual mode. For lenses I have an 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, 50mm f/1.8, 70-200 f/2.8L

I notice with wide apeture fast shutter the picture shows some sort of banding. With a slow shutter and high contrast sceens the brighter portions seem to hot spot and loose detail.

With all the settings available to me, what would be a typical setup for taking accurate screen shots.

Art discovered thet the Landscape auto mode does a great job on the digital rebel (he and I both have the 400D). If your 300D has the mountain icon on the dial, give that a try. Use a tripod and the 2 second delay timer. Unless you have a really long room and/or a small screen, you'll probably need to use the 18-55.

Clarence,

I've got a Kodak DX-7440. If you get some time, what would my best settings be?

Thanks!

I have found with my kodak that the fireworks auto setting with tripod and timer have been working well. I have a DX7590.

I experimented with my camera a few nights ago and found a feature which allowed me to set white balance from a reference capture. I'm not even sure how that is supposed to work but I ended up placing the camera on a tripod and while using an all white test pattern I captured that image on screen. My pictures following that procedure seemed noticeably better, especially the colors and flesh tones. As Clarence said, use the 2 second timer to avoid any contact with the camera while it is shooting.

Hi Clarence, I just tried that setting yesterday. While I don't like the automatic modes in general, the Landscape mode does perform decently for screenshots.
I would prefer it though if I could force ISO to 100, but creative zone modes don't allow that Sad

I posted some screenshots here:

Lens was a 18-55 3.5-5.6 IS
