The BatCave has been seen before, the others are pretty cool. Tho, I think the burnished gold effect in the Indiana Jones HT might hurt the contrast ratio!

ya those are nice. the others would really take away from the viewing experience. i bet those clowns dress up in character and watch movies.

I love the Batcave, but the Trekkie in me digs the Star Trek themes. The Titanic theater is also awesome, looks very comfortable.

I did some work on the death star theater in a few areas that dillion works didnt do, the cabinets on one side of the entrance where the popcorn machine is and the media room behind carbonite solo, I put all the cabinets in there for the media storage. Along with a good part of the cabinets in the rest of the house. Never saw it in complete working order though.

I think my favorite out of all 10 of those would be #5 the evergreen ultimate theater, it seems to fit the space best and doesn't seemed cramped, and at least they stuck with a dark gray and black color scheme. Id like to see someone do a Stargate Atlantis gate/control room theater, I think that would make a cool looking theater and the color scheme isn't bad either.

As a designer I respect the detail and craftsmanship that went into some of those theaters,... but frankly,... they are all kinda new-money trashy. I'd like to know how many of those are owned by ballers or lotto winners. Just because you have the money to recreate the starship enterprise doesn't mean its a good idea. I suppose in 60-80 years the patina of time will prove me wrong.

The Titanic one is really nice... mostly because it looks more like a room than a nerd fest.

He obviously hasn't measured the screen size himself but has gone by what the installer told him Rolling Eyes

, it is not 144", my screen size is 138" and is 2.1 metres tall by 2.8 metres wide and is bigger than his, even though his is higher on the wall than mine I can tell from the width it is smaller.

You're right Dave, it's not even close to 12' diagonal. His arm span nearly covered the width

8 servers with 3816 DVDs.. at 5-6Gb (uncompressed) 22896Gb (22.36Tb) ... I've got 75% of that on a single server in a big RAID5 array.. in two years, we'll probably be all using laser holographic drives with multi Petabyte storage Smile

You know, it's cool to be able to spend $3m on a theater. But I'm not sure the movie watching experience they have will be a hell of a lot better than my $1000 theater...

If you watched 3 movies a week (a lot by most people's standards), it would take 24 1/2 years to watch 3,816 DVDs, and that's if you never buy another DVD or watch a DVD more than once. It's also assuming you want to watch all of them. Many I'm sure you don't.

The vast majority of your collection will never be viewed. There just isn't enough time.

This is why I don't buy DVDs. I rent and rip DVDs for time shifting purposes only. Unless I really, REALLY like a movie, I delete it after viewing it once.

Back to the topic:

I think some of those HTs are very nice, but I wouldn't want anything like that. A typical HT painted in dark colors with comfy seats and a kick ass A/V system is what I prefer. It's the best setup for actually viewing a movie. These expensive HTs are all about the room, with little regard for performance.

I'd like to get the chance. I know that what I have now beats the bejesus (aside from the fact that I'm running SD rather than HD) out of all but one commercial theater I've been in.

I'm just not sure what variables are really left - you can make the sound cleaner, you can make the bass tighter, you can make the image sharper and the colors better. But compared to the maximum possible technology available, and the maximum ability of the directors and producers to utilize it, I doubt there's more than a 20% *objective* difference at most. How that translates into 'wow' factor, though, I can't say.

Clarence is exactly right - it's about the selection. With music, you don't have 10,000 songs on an iPod to listen to music for 20 days uninterrupted, you have them so that you always have the music to suit any mood or whim. Same with the movies.
